We stopped in Dunkirk as wanted to do something different en route to UK. The Dunkirk 1940 museum was recommended and this is why we went. The museum was very interesting and brought the reality of Operation Dynamo home to us more so than watching the movie. We also walked around the town which had an eclectic mix of architecture from all the rebuilding over the years.Guest review byJanieSwitzerland - 10.0

Very interesting city, totally destroyed in WWI but rebuilt after it. Liberated by the Polish Troops under Canadian orders in WW2. Menin gate is a must to visit as are the museums both in Ypres and the surrounding area.Guest review byBrianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nieuwpoort consists of the main town which in a little distance inland, and Nieuwpoort-Bad which is at the seaside. Make sure you pick the right one. Nieuwpoort-Bad is one of the better Belgian seaside towns with shops, good hotels and apartments, and entertainment. It’s also a good base from which to drive or take the Littoral tram along the coast. Parking can be a pain, but most of the seaside towns offer 30mins free then €1 or €1.50 per hour. But you have to register your number plate and take a ticket for the free 30 mins option. Santos Palace in nearby Koksijde is a must visit for hot chocolate, waffles and patisserie.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I have travelled back to the UK from De Panne many times, it is only about 50 mins from the tunnel, and far enough away from Calais and all its problems. Plus, De Panne is a Belgian holiday seaside resort, lots of restaurants, and off the promenade, lots of last minute present buying shops. I have bought so much chocolate from here in the past.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The Beach at Koksijde is absolutely stunning.
The Beach at Koksijde is absolutely stunning. There are plenty of Restraunts and beach bars. Friday Mornings there is a street market with local belgian foods and other small business vendors. Everything you could want on a beach vacation is easily accessible on ZeeLaan (Main Street) Taking advantage of the KustTram you can travel from DePanne to Ostende (where you can catch the train to Brugge - a definite must see)Guest review byR CraigUnited States - 8.0

Spent most of my time visiting places across the border in French Flanders, but chose to stay just outside Poperinge owing to its location and ease to get to places in both Belgium and France. Went into the town on two evenings to eat at restaurants of which one was ok and the other excellent. The other evenings I went to nearby Ieper. For adults I think that there is ample to do and see in Poperinge and the surrounding area for a couple of days, particulary if you have an interest WW1 or beer, which fortunately I do.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 10.0

As I was involved with the visit of the Dunkirk Little Ships to commemorate Operation Dynamo in 1940, I spent most of my time with them in the Basin de Commerce, and didn't explore Grande Synthe during my visit, therefore it would be unfair of me to comment on the area, other than to ay that what I saw of it, was very clean, fairly quiet with pleasant modern housing, and with an excellent bus service..... I'd live there !!Guest review byPatrick - 8.0
The ramparts, waterways and gardens are interesting.
The ramparts, waterways and gardens are interesting. It is a very small town with a market on Fridays. The walk along the channel to the sea is very pleasant and you can get the free bus back. It has a tourist office but English is not spoken and only 1 brochure in English. There are not many places to eat and we chose to self cater for various reasons. The local buses are free for 40km around so its a good way to see other places locally. The beaches are sandy, clean and vast with the shoreline a long way out so not so convenient for sea swimming.Guest review byCarolUnited Kingdom - 2.0

Didn't get chance to look round Dunkerque as we were going elsewhere, so only got to see the beach briefly and enjoy a meal at a seafront restaurant, but it looks like a place we would have loved exploring so will come back one day.Guest review byVanessaUnited Kingdom
