Firstly the hotel location was in a really amazing place, you had all the mountains nearby and the scenarios is so beautiful, there is a river just a few meters away and it's a calming process to hear it in the morning out in the balcony or during the day where you can go near to it and sit out, or at night while sleeping. it's so lovely. The facilities - they have an amazing restaurant, with plenty of room and places to sit, there's a place where you can chill and the best for last, their entertainment place, they have a billiards, a Kino, football table (tabletop), and also a table tennis for you to play with friends or your companion. Now the Room - We were located in the 2nd floor, room number 245, the room was quite large, it had a large bathroom, with a bathtub (which we always love), it was clean, the bed was comfy and quite large (two single beds together with something in the middle so it looks like one large bed), it had a sofa on the side with a table where you could sit and enjoy. The balcony is also large and it has two chairs and a table where you could enjoy the view of the beautiful mountains. I told the staff beforehand that i am coming for an romantic weekend, and they made sure to make it more pleasant for us, with heart shaped chocolate on our bed. There is one coop market nearby and has all the stuff you need. Free and large parking. Nice and very helpful staff. Clean and beautiful Hotel. The last emperor of Austria-Hungary, Blessed Charles Habsburg, stayed there with his wife, Servant of God Zita, and their family; the history of the castle is also related to, among others, the French Revolution. There is an old, very interesting chapel next to it. The castle is beautifully situated, overlooking the lake, surrounded by a vast, magnificent park; it has terraces, herb gardens and beautiful plants under the windows. Interesting interiors, especially historic staircase and the Silent Room. Family apartment consists of 2 rooms with a bathroom and a kitchenette; the apartment was very clean, well-equipped, with a nice view of the park and a side view of the lake. The location was beautiful, parking easy, the spa amazing, my room and the view off the balcony was beautiful! Everything was very well thought out. I liked the refreshment stands on each floor, I thought it that was a really good touch! It wasn’t a massive hotel so getting around was super easy, the restaurants were lovely and the food, well, yum!! All the staff seemed very pleasant and friendly. Nothing was too much :) the spa area is phenomenal, so so relaxing! The outdoor pools and area are fabulous, if you enjoy nature then this is the place! The abbey complex is the place you want to see if you are interested in history: the museum, the vault and the library are amazing and absolutely worth the visit (and the price, that is even cheap). Getting around the town is easy, both walking and using the public transportation. We had a wonderful last minute trip to Appenzell. It was beautiful and friendly town. As we visit midweek in September is was less crowded and more enjoyable. We really enjoyed strolling through town and visiting the near by Eberalp Lift and walk to the Aescher Inn. Rapperswil-Jona is an absolutely beautifully pretty little historical town with everything you need. It has an abundance of restaurants of all types, some in tiny little cobbled back streets and many overlooking the lake. The best thing we found during our stay was the superb lake swimming area. There are purpose built changing rooms, life guards, a café, sun-decks, showers and a large protected area of the lake for swimming, plus a couple of floating deck-islands if you fancy a bit of on water relaxing. We swam every morning before breakfast, which was fabulous and really a pleasure once you got in the water. Stunningly gorgeous area with tons of outdoor/mountaineering activities to do. In the winter this would make a killer ski/snowboarding spot. My wife and I had a blast exploring the random mountain roads and trails getting amazing pictures. Just be prepared to spend money because everything is very expensive, we went to a random restaurant in town and spent 40 euro on a shredded beef sandwich to give you an idea of the cost. A quaint village on the shores of Lake Walensee, under the impressive Churfirsten (mountain range). Can be busy and crowded on a warm summers day. Best time to visit would be early morning or early evening. If a keen hiker it's a wonderful mid-point stop or end point treat for a meal and a well deserved refreshment. Some lovely local products on sale. Wildhaus, by its location and views, is quaint, clean and stunning. Lots of hiking can be done straight from the hotel, or you can take the ski / hiking lifts up to higher ground and do mountain top excursions, with breathtaking views of the mountains. Definitely worth a visit of you are looking for peace, hiking and beauty. There are various hotels in the area, Hotel Sonne has a magnificent menu of Swiss specialties and very acceptable pricing. I booked the hotel in Uzwil to use it as a “hub” for further visits by car to many historic and cultural sights in the eastern part of Switzerland, Lichtenstein and southern Germany (St.Gallen, Winterthur, Stein am Rhein, Zurich, Appenzell, Konstanz, etc.). From this point of view the choice of this hotel in the small town of Uzwil was right. Uzwil is a small town/village. There are no special attractions. It was difficult to navigate because of the major extensive road works in the area around the Hotel Uzwil. Hotel's restaurant is fine but quite overpriced. Fortunately there is an excellent restaurant "Freudenberg" at a distance of 600 meters (you need to climb up to the hill). The location in a valley at 500m, surrounded by peaks reaching 2,500m, was great. Unfortunately the Tamina hot springs up the gorge, and the gorge itself, were closed, but I did manage to catch the last day of the season at Heidiland, a charming place. The mineral springs spa is fabulous, where you can enjoy every type of pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and water massages, and, of course, it is immaculately clean and well organised. The tourist tax in Bad Ragaz is a hefty 4.60CHF per night. I found the locals rather cold and snobby. It's a nice place to go to if you like the spa. I did not eat out so cannot recommend restaurants. Sorry. The public transport, like everywhere in Switzerland, is excellent but buses only run once per hour.Guest review byGabriellaIsrael
