The best hotel we’ve been in Costa Rica! Full of nature around and with a breathtaking volcano’s view, this place made our experience in La Fortuna even more amazing. Everything was very clean and spacious, with a great balcony facing the gardens and the volcano. The staff is super sweet and helpful, always smiling and willing to help.

We did a tour of Costa Rica and it was probably the best place we stayed, beautiful new rooms, little modern kitchen, beautiful shower and jacuzzi! The view from the top balcony (each room has one) is breathtaking. I have never seen anything like it! Friendly staff, easy to communicate via what’s up any time! 10 minutes from the Arenal volcano.

In this small family operation, Jose’s service was impeccable. He reached out in advance and removed down/feather pillows as I’m allergic. Six stars, Jose, for preheating the outdoor jacuzzi in advance of our arrival. Bungalow is the right word: small, adequate, hybrid indoor and outdoor. Jacuzzi on the side; rainforest in the back. Breakfast was more than adequate, and we enjoyed a tasty dinner at the Ross restaurant in nearby Chachagua. Sadly, we missed an early morning sighting of the area sloth crawling across the power line above. That’s for next time.

Our stay at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge was truly a highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Having visited multiple places across the country, this one stood out as the most memorable by far. The food at La Tigra is simply amazing, with each dish crafted with care and attention to detail. From the quality and diversity of the menu to the beautiful presentation of the plates, it was a culinary delight at every meal. Our room was beyond amazing, boasting a stunning view of the jungle that made us feel like we were in a dream. Not only were the rooms impeccably clean, but we were pleasantly surprised to find warm water—a luxury in the midst of the rainforest. The entire experience felt surreal and truly special, something we know we'll never forget. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, taking the time to explain everything clearly and ensuring that our every need was met. Their genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. One of the highlights of our stay was the frog tour, which we had the pleasure of experiencing twice—once in rain and once in dry weather. Each time was a unique and magical encounter with Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity. The journey to La Tigra was an adventure in itself, with the scenic drive requiring a 4x4 vehicle and a leisurely pace. But the anticipation of what awaited us at the lodge made it all the more exciting. In conclusion, La Tigra Rainforest Lodge surpassed all our expectations and left us with memories that will last a lifetime. It truly was the most memorable stay of our trip, and we can't wait to return someday.

I loved the fact that’s it’s a resort but it’s in the nature and not crowded, like a boutique resort. Wonderful room, amazing view, nice environment and atmosphere. Good breakfast with a view. You can hike to waterfalls from the hotel, inside the resort ! And there is a little farm with animals, my child loved it. Not far away from the airport so that’s very convenient when we arrive/depart from San Jose and there are plenty of things to do around, including visiting the volcan Poas.

The centre is not over touristified. A few good supermarkets. A good variety of food options, with some good Sodas. A lot of accommodation to choose from. Nice Central Park. Many activities to choose from, and easy to get transport to them if you don’t have a car. The Mundo 12 zip lines can’t be missed.

I was there one night because it was close to the airport. I would not hang out there for a significant length of time. Not a good place to be after dark. Also came across a suitcase on a sidewalk. It had obviously been stolen and rummaged through.

    Proximity to Airport!

Proximity to Airport! This facility standards were substandard. My wife hurt her foot on a dangerous doorstop, sewer gas was overwhelming, no hot water, air conditioner was not hooked up, pumping hot air back into the room. The stairs right from ground level were dangerous. English was non existent with staff. They were courteous and helpful. There were no privacy coverings on the windows. Open hole in Bathroom ceiling.

Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town.

Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town. It’s not a tourist town. You are very submerged in the culture. Learn some Spanish. Everyone was kind. We ate at several restaurants. We shopped at the grocery. We seemed to be the only tourists. It seemed very safe. The food was EXCELLENT! We drank the water. Read up on tipping. Stray dogs are everywhere. Do NOT pet them at the restaurants. We did the Sky Bridge Tour in Bijagua (a little hard to find - it’s at a resort) and the Tree Top Chocolate Tour. Both we excellent. We hiked to the Rio Celeste waterfall. That is not an easy hike. It’s through the jungle. Wear boots! Snakes are a VERY REAL. We also did tubing down the river. SO FUN!!!

When making your reservation, ask for the biggest cottage possible. Its all uphill and sometimes rainy and foggy when making your way here, and stay on the road ALL THE WAY UP TO WHERE IT ENDS, at the reception, restaurant lodge. This restaurant was a total surprise. The food and service was exceptional. I vote for Jean Carlo as best hotel/restaurant host in the whole country.

Grecia is a wonderful little town.

Grecia is a wonderful little town. I was here to find a new home so I was looking throughout the area and visited Atenas and Naranjo as well. We decided on a place near Naranjo. In Grecia I ate at several local Sodas which were fantastic and a more upscale restaurant called Bariles which was fantastic. POPs ice cream shop is also highly recommended. In Atenas I ate at a really good Italian restaurant called Firenze. The Pasta Puttanesca was cooked to perfection. When driving watch for motorcycles.

This is a busy typical CR centre with little to offer in the way of browsing or touristy type things. Really good handmade souvenirs in store opposite city park. The museum is open Tues to Sat. We missed it, so I can't comment on that. The weather was cold, foggy and at times windy (this was mid Jan). That's all I can think of!

Atenas is a beautiful town in the low mountains of central Costa Rica. The climate is moderate and dry. The town is very authentic and on Sundays you can find many families in the Central Park enjoying family time. The best part is that Atenas is not overrun with tourists. Definitely one of my favourite spots in the country and I have visited ma y areas of Costa Rica.

We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.
