Lovely facilities, in the middle of the forest, with a beautiful setup around the pool. You can listen to all the birds and monkeys while enjoying a cocktail in the garden. Staff was really friendly at all times, rooms are decorated with very good taste. Our room also had some comfy chairs in front of the room, so you could chill outside in the evenings. Tasty breakfast and cocktails. Overall, it's a really beautiful place to stay at!

Stunning hotel, great attention to detail with every aspect well thought through. Plenty of storage space in the rooms, gorgeous pool area, easy location shirt tuk tuk away from town but the thing that really made it was the lovely staff, everyone is extremely accomodating and happy to help. Special mention to the bartenders Yibran and Fabricio who were excellent. Also the owner Tim was lovely and made sure everyone was well looked after. Thankyou!

We stayed at La Prometida in Puerto Viejo for three wonderful nights last week. We were absolutely impressed by both the accommodation and the hospitality of Selva. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail: from the fresh coffee delivered to our door every morning (complete with adorable heart-shaped chocolates on Valentine's Day - a lovely touch!), to the stunning Ibiza-style interior of the villas themselves. This stay will definitely remain one of the highlights of our 15-day holiday. In short, a true paradise tucked away in a quiet side street of the breathtaking Playa Negra. An absolute must!

We had a wonderful stay at Awa, a boutique hotel located on one of the most beautiful beaches on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful, always going above and beyond to assist with anything we needed. Their attitude and professionalism were truly outstanding, far surpassing service standards we’ve experienced in many European locations. The rooms were exactly as pictured, beautifully maintained and thoughtfully designed.     The rafting and stay at Pacuare Lodge is 100 per cent top-class and can be recommended to those willing to enjoy an adventure and stay in the rainforest. The rafting for us (a group of 8 friends, rafting for the first time in our life) was one of the highlights of our 20 days trip in Costa Rica. The guides navigated the rafts so easily that it did not really matter if we paddled as instructed or confused commands – were were safe in their hands and could trust the guides completely. The guides Moses and Walter were very professional, entertaining and great communicators; as well as very attentive and sensitive at the same time. Everybody should give a try to this experience! Much has been said about the Lodge and its surroundings in other reviews – the praise is well deserved. This place is unforgettable and the Lodge should be added to everybody‘s itinerary as the atmosphere and the feeling you get there is beyond words.

    An amazing way to experience the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, sleeping in the middle of the forest, surrounded by monkeys, sloths, and the soothing sounds of the ocean right by. The Dome was spacious and clean, equipped with air conditioning and a fan. We har everything we needed and a great view of our surroundings. The beach is literally 10 meters away, and there’s a huge outdoor area with tables, chairs and even swings. We were treated as if we were at home since the moment we arrived. Señora Nuria was an exceptional host who went out of her way to help with whatever she could (even drying our clothes when we got caught in a rainstorm). We were also given great recommendations and tips about the area. The breakfast is homemade and the coffee is AMAZING! Would love to stay here again, strongly recommend!

    I highly suggest Casa Boho- I extended my stay and didn't want to leave. The location is perfect- it's a short walk to all the stuff in town, without the noise. Easy to bike to/from, especially to Playa Cocles. The room looks exactly like the photos, it was very was clean, and had all you would need for a short stay. Annabelle is SO lovely- she really makes folks feel welcome, especially solo travellers. She also made some great puerto viejo suggestions and has friends that run eco friendly / local owned tours or other local activities. She has a lot of great plans to make the hotel even better than it already is so I can't wait to come back and see it all once it is completed, ie a new kitchen, the yoga spot, other eco projects. Stay here :)

    Everything was great. The location is beautiful on the beach and only few minutes from the town center, there are different restaurants from walking distance. The staff was nice and very helpful, the rooms always clean. There are 3 pool including one facing the beach, it’s a very relaxing and boutique beach resort like environment. They offer a lot of free activities with awesome instructors. I loved doing the yoga classes and aquagym, but also discovering aerial yoga/gym. There plenty of sloths within the hotel precincts which makes the experience even more magical.

    The ocean is actually quit rough.

    The ocean is actually quit rough. You can't let your kids unseen be in the ocean (you can do this never of course, but it was wild). There were lifequards, that gave a safe feeling, but still.. I think Puerto Viejo is very expensive when you buy grocery or souvenirs. That's not nice. And some place were very dirty on the streets. To much trash. But the athmosfere is very relaxed.

    We were not originally going to stop in Tortuguero during...

    We were not originally going to stop in Tortuguero during our short stay in CR, but are so glad we did! It's not easy to get there, but the journey was most definitely part of the fun! We took a private boat from La Pavona (which cost the same as the public boat but offered to take us all the way to our hotel instead of the main Tortuguero dock). On our first night, we booked a turtle nesting tour from 8-10 pm and watched a momma turtle lay her eggs on the beach. It was incredible. We chose to eat at our hotel across the water instead of in town. It was easier that way. Besides the turtle nesting tour, we also took a hike in the national park with our children. There are other tours we could have taken, but we were satisfied with just watching the wildlife (monkeys) play at our hotel pool. On our boat trip back to La Pavona was memorable -- in that we saw many crocodiles along the river.

    Costa Rica, for those who prefer nature as a concept not to be endured too long, and with minimal discomfort. I can't speak to other parts of the country but the Caribbean coast is not a place for real travelers. Go to Honduras or Guatemala instead.

    Only warm hearts and sincere smiles give one the feeling of friendship and every where i went was fun. I stopped at a small restaurant and the waitress being very young and pretty spoke no English which is fine but when looking at the menu i ask if she listed among the items. Only joking in a friendly manor A man who spoke English ask what i was saying and i told him at 82 most don't expect such language. He heard what i ask and went into laughter and smiles telling all what i said. They took it the way i meant it not like i was trying to be rude. The tables around me and those on the sidewalks stopped and laughed and it set the pace for smiles.

    We loved our beach cabin stay in Manzanillo!

    We loved our beach cabin stay in Manzanillo! We ate meals on the front porch surrounded by the beautiful garden, listening to the rolling waves of the ocean. The beach is just across the street, and the nature reserve is a five minute walk away at the end of the street. There is also a good Caribbean restaurant at the other end of the street, also just a five minute walk from the cabin. Our host was very friendly and attentive. It’s a quiet, authentic beach town, and much less touristy than Puerto Viejo. We plan to stay there again.

    Our hotel, Arrecife Punta Uva, was right on the beach and very conveniently close to a restaurant. There were plenty of seating areas and hammocks provided, which made it easy to relax. One of the highlights was a beautiful viewpoint on a cliff about a 10-minute walk away—definitely worth the short hike. The food at the restaurant was also quite good.

    This a brand new villa which is very beautiful but needs to have shampoo and a small kitchenette since there is no restaurant or any nearby. But the place is very relaxing and beautiful at the same time.

    Puerto Viejo was a cute little beach front town with lots of life and friendly people. It’s not as “touristy” as I had read about. We felt safe walking around town and loved having so many transportation options. The tuks were a fun option to get around. There were several great restaurants within walking distance. Both Playa Negra and Punta Uva were beautiful beaches. Our visit was during the rainy season but it wasn’t horrible. It would rain a bit but the clear up. Would highly recommend staying there.

    I really liked the town, which was tiny.

    I really liked the town, which was tiny. We did eat there a couple of times and both times the food was great. I could happily have spent more time exploring the nature, and just chilling at our hotel.

    The area in Cahuita we stayed at was ok, I wouldn't go back. But we visited Puerto Viejo, that town is definitely great. Lots going on there, beautiful beaches, lots of restaurants, etc. A happy place. But not Cahuita.
