The Island Out of This Planet
Volcanic Lanzarote, one of the Spanish Canary Islands, features the dramatic landscapes of the Timanfaya National Park and the lush beaches of Papagayo and Blanco. Its out-of-this-world appearance, due to volcanic eruptions of the 18th and 19th centuries, earns Lanzarote a well-deserved spot in the sci-fi film sets list.
The island has the longest volcanic submerged tunnel in the world (1,500 metres), the Tunnel de la Atlantida, which boasts the amazing Cueva de los Verdes lava tube with walls illuminated by coloured lights.
Lanzarote has 213 km of coastline, most of which is rocky and complements perfectly the island’s 2 mountain ranges of Famara and Ajaches. Throw the El Jable desert into the mix and you have one fascinating holiday destination!
With a wide choice of watersports, including scuba diving, parasailing and canoeing, you never run out of things to do. Adventurous types can enjoy a submarine trip or visit the Rancho Texas, a Wild West-themed park.
And don’t forget about the local cuisine, including unique mojo verde or picon sauces and papas arrugadas - a dish of cooked unpeeled potatoes cooked, baked dry afterwards and served with a mojo.
Whichever you choose from the range of Lanzarote’s apartments, hotels or resorts, Booking.com has over 330 properties to suit every taste.

Playa Balance is a reasonably quiet town in comparison to Peurto del Carmen, and prettier. It has plenty of bars, cafe's and places to eat. Village beach is great, and there are a variety of shops for souveniers and groceries.Guest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 10

Visited many times but never stayed for any time in Arrecife - so we half knew what to expect and was hoping we would discover where there may have been a few more "local" restaurants and music bars and venues ideally somewhere where we could have listened to local artists. Not keen on Irish bars which make a feature of Irish music and karaoke - not the sort of music we were seeking out and fortunately we did not find any Irish bars in Arrecife. They are well hidden!! Was also hoping to discover a few more "locals" restaurants in the back streets but really only found a good Mexican La Lupe Cantina on C. Coronel Bens. You need to wander over to El Charco for the best choice of restaurant. Taxis easy to get and the Lanzarote Bus is useful - when the bus drivers are not working to rule and the app actually contains data that is useful. Enjoyed our time there!Guest review bySJC2024United Kingdom - 10

Playa Honda is quiet, and more residential, full of lovely locals.... beautiful walks along the beach front, easy access to shops, buses, restaurants etc... not a lot of tourists, so you can appreciate the culture more. Just love it. We enjoy walking, so a nice 40 minute walk takes you into Arrecife, or you can get a bus into Costa Teguise or Matagorda, hire a bike and cycle along the path both ways.... La Opera, Goliath's, Bechamell restaurants are lovely, good prices and lots of choice. It really is a piece of heaven on earth in Playa Honda.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A small town with plenty of people around using the facilities for their daily life. Not a lot of choice of places to eat but enough the fakily run Spanish Taverna was amazing this I would recommend the best value ever and so friendly. Shut on a Sunday so you are warned lol!!!Guest review byflorey - 8.0

Where we stayed in Yaiza was very quiet. A great location for a large group like ours but a must is to have a hire car to enable you to travel freely in and out of more lively areas around the island.Guest review byAlexandraUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I was there in early March, and it did feel a bit off-seasony and quiet. Some of the cafes I had wanted to try were closed until the end of March. Still, a small handful of good restaurants, and easy access by road to the other parts of the island, so it was a good base to explore from. I recommend Ikarus for fresh fish, Boutique del pan-San Rafael for coffee, and the Creperia for cheap/cheerful tapas and drinks outside with music. I found the locals all very friendly.Guest review byEricaUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Wonderful little town sit in the past, no noises apart from the sea and the wind. Breataking cliff as a background, wonderful sand beach for spectacular walks! The town has dirt roads, it seems belonging to another time, enchanting, white, no advertisement as Manrique (the local artist of Lanzarote) worked with politicians to keep a visual decor (all hourses withe, two floors only, no advertisment). It was paradise for me! Just being there and admire the athmosphere!Guest review byEmanuelaUnited Kingdom
