    Because we had a car we used Reims as a base and alternated between trips into the surrounding area and days sightseeing in Reims. If we hadn't been doing that, then 2 full days in Reims would probably be enough. Although some museums are closed on certain days so it is worth making sure your days suit your itinerary for the major sites. The museum of Surrender was closed which was disappointing.

    Easy to get to Epernay by train from Gare de L'Est in Paris. Good choice of champagne houses to walk to, without need for a car, but you need to book your visits. Helpful tourist board. Le Sardaignes restaurant, good choice of food.

    Pleasant interesting town at which we had not previously stayed. The city centre has a calm atmosphere of its own. We did a tour of the Joseph Perrier Champagne house which was impressive. Vincent was a friendly and informative host.

    This hotel is situated outside the city centre, on the banks...

    This hotel is situated outside the city centre, on the banks for the river that flows through the city. However, it’s not in the romantic area but seemed to be closer to the light industrial centre. It was relatively easy to find though. The rooms were a bit on the small side and ok for a night. There is a good restaurant 10-15 minutes walk away along the road, so the group I was with went there, then walked back for a not-very-good night’s sleep. Parking was good. There’s space in front of the hotel, but for added security, there is another parking area behind the hotel where access is controlled by a heavy gate that is locked overnight. Right opposite is a supermarket with a fuel station, so that was handy.

    A lovely little town, effectively part of Chateau Thierry where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, historical stuff (castle and WW1 monument). Access to several Champagne caves - one is really based around a cave, amazing! Safe to walk, there appear to be plenty of buses, but given the heat some sites (the US WW1 memorial) need a car for most people to get there

    If you want to visit the cathedral of Notre Dame( which is beautiful) you need to check times and festival dates. It certainly is worth visiting. Our hotel was a 10 min drive in but plenty of paid parking on roads. The cathedral city has beautiful parks and lovely restaurants which come alive at night. A good city break for two nights.

    Lovely Chateau in the Champagne region, idyllic setting, very tranquil. Food in the main restaurant was excellent. Ideal for our 25th Anniversary. The cost is a little high but you get what you pay for.

    It is a quiet village but has a large number of small champagne houses offering tasting opportunities. It does not have a large selection of restaurants but does have a great delicatessen offering sharing platters and great wine. You can easily walk to Épernay and there is a train service to Reims. So a great location to explore the champagne region

    An important city since Roman times, Reims has been the site...

    An important city since Roman times, Reims has been the site of many historic events. It was the place where for 1000 years French kings were annointed, world wars were fought, and the WWII surrender was signed. Significantly damaged in WWI, it has been rebuilt, but lost a lot of its character. The city is still beautiful, but not as evocative as it must have been. The iconic cathedral in the city centre, and the basilica in its south (along with the adjacent St Remi museum) are definitely worth visiting, as are the local champagne caves. There are many operators offering day trips to visit nearby champagne houses, so do consider including a tour or two in your itinerary.
