This was not my first trip to Lourdes and I found the destination to be rather pricy. Food is terribly expensive, like a portion of dessert is 9e. The destination only offers the religious aspect unless you leave Lourdes to visit the mountains. Lovely area.
Lovely area. Don't miss the Underground River tour at La Bouiche, and the Grotte du Mas d'Azil was amazing though the tour was only in French and you do not get to see the paintings. Pity the Museum opens at 4.30pm and we did not have enough time to visit it.Guest review byJosephMalta - 8.0

Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees.
Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees. We stayed for a week and could have stayed a few more days. Tons of hikes, waterfalls, water activities, and climbing within an hour's drive (but many places are much closer than that). My one piece of advice would be to make dinner reservations ahead of time or order your takeout early because most places fill up really fast and even the pizza places stopped taking orders early in the evening because they filled up so quickly! There is a great food market on Saturday, I wish I could have stayed in the area for longer to justify buying more local goods from the artisans ( cheeses, meats, breads etc. Many local walks up into the hills around the town start from the centre , just make sure you bring your walking boots. Even the relatively short walk up to the Virgin Mary is worth it. And of course a dip in the thermal spa/ public baths is well worth it.Guest review byKenUnited Kingdom - 10

I love this village, very well situated between Pic du Midi, Gavarnie, and Pont d'Espagne directions. It has everything you need as a tourist: supermarkets and specialty stores (wine, cheese, etc), restaurants, a small market, a tourist office, parks, and several walking trails around the valley (ask for a map in the tourist office), a spa center... This little ski town truly has gorgeous views and is in a very beautiful natural setting. I wish we had been able to stay for more than just one night, but I’m glad we got a chance to go! Getting around is easy on foot. The town has lots of cafés and little shops. It also has a great outdoor gear store and a large shoe shop! When we were there a concert was being played and it was lovely to hear it from the outside of the structure where it was being played. Oloron is a most attractive town with river, parks and several bridges. Lots of restaurants and interesting architecture. and the locals markedly friendly and helpful.
