- From US$151.64 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 434 reviewsThe outside of the Hotel was a bit deceiving it looked just like any other 3 star hotel BUT when you walk inside it is very very welcoming, cosy, clean, comfortable, spaceous, and beautifully decorated in traditional Scottish style. Our beds were very comfortable we all slept very well, no noise no disturbance very friendly housekeepers but what we loved the most was the breakfast and the friendly helpful staff. The breakfast buffet was more than I expected and you were full up by the time you finished, very clean very good quality food, any amount of options. The staff there could not do enough for us they worked so hard (we were at a wedding) and they still were kind and helpful right into the night having served us food early that same day I just cannot fault the staff and want to thank them for their hospitality. We loved Montrose too and we would love to come back, it's a perfect venue for a wedding, the wedding venue looked so cute and had doors that lead put onto a beautifully kept garden (Well done gardeners), the receptionist were super helpful always friendly, I highly recommend this hotel I would go as far to say it was the best hotel experience we as a family have ever had and I think it's because it's very down to earth, family orientated and non pretentious, love it.Guest review byAnitaIreland
- From US$121.32 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,689 reviewsA wonderful place for an ideal vacation. Peace, comfort, very pleasant and attentive staff. My husband and I visited the spacious spa area. The saunas are really hot and good. The only thing missing in the spa area was some relaxing music to relax, because the pool relaxation area is also cozy, so lying there would be completely relaxing, because emotional relaxation is very important and high-quality. I really liked the breakfast, it's perfect when you can choose from the menu yourself, everything is very tasty. Perfect breakfast view of the golf course with players. Wonderful place by the sea, you can walk a lot. We really liked it, best recommendations for others.Guest review byJurgitaLithuania
- From US$121.32 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 859 reviewsI didn’t expect this hotel such a lovely place for one night short stay before we heading towards Edinburgh (coming from the Loch Ness). It was surrounded in natural but the great Lunan bay beach was just around the corner. The room was spacious and facilities worked well. The photos posted here didn’t show its full charm. I highly recommend it if you are doing a road trip and take it as a stopover between the Loch Ness and the Arbroath cliffs.Guest review byShanshanItaly

We normally stay in St Andrews when on a short break in the area. Carnoustie golf Hotel is more than a match for most St Andrews hotels. The town on the other hand is a long way short when it comes to restaurants and shops compared with St Andrews. If you are staying 1 or 2 nights then I would definitely recommend Carnoustie golf Hotel.Guest review byGerrUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Lots of things for kids to do.
Lots of things for kids to do. Travelled with my 4 year old and he had a great time. Good choice of supermarkets for self catering. Decent options for eating out also. Lots of nice places to walk and the town centre has a few good shops (especially Charity shops which I love a rummage in)Guest review bytracyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We were only there for one night on the way from Aberdeen to Edinburgh but golfing in Aberdeen and Monifieth. It was a Monday and therefore restaurants weren’t open as you’d expect although I’m sure it would be better around the weekend.Guest review byMalcolmUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Room was perfect size for family, bathroom has leak beside shower causing mold /rotten wood. Room does get a lot of noise from business above. I was unaware I hadn't preordered breakfast as I received an email day before asking me what time slot i wished but when check in was told no breakfast available as more rooms than tables for breakfast available. Was offered 9.30am breakfast downstairs on first day but second day we were refused far from ideal for a family with children to be told to wait til 10am when public breakfast area opens! We actually had 3 rooms booked for 2 nights but only one room got breakfast stress free . Please consider making breakfast in your larger area rather than refusing families breakfast.Guest review byOmoniyi - 10.0

We lunched at The Drovers Inn which was fantastic. Forfar has a lot of nice places to eat and is not far from Glamis Castle which is a lovely day out. The only downside about Forfar is that it doesn't have a rail service but it does have a regular bus service.Guest review bycampbell - 10.0

Very nice place and lots to see. We went to Brechin Castle it was nice and good cafe it does meals tea & coffee & cakes & sandwiches of all kinds a lovely cafe. Plus it has a shop and garden shop. Edzell is a beautiful place to stay, most people were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was adequate and although quite small was nice and comfortable.the shower was not great and very poor and the toilet would not flush properly without having to refill the cistern. The auto lights in the very dark hall did not come on unless we walked way past our room so kind of pointless for us. The breakfast room is in need of soft music or something as all we could hear was other people eating with their mouths open, this was not enjoyable. The bar also is in need of some music in the evening anything really to give it some life.Guest review byHeatherUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Stayed there , about six years ago , and was very pleased , unfortunately , the owner passed away , and whoever it is that is now running the establishment need to be trained in people management , his attitude is disgraceful. Definitely won’t be recommending this hillside hotel to anyone I know .Guest review byDianeUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Arbroath is a nice coastal town, good size for walking...
Arbroath is a nice coastal town, good size for walking around all the main areas. Main shopping street a bit tired with lots of closed shops, but enough coffee, bars and restaurants. We used the Wetherspoons a few times which is always good value for money, and The Old Brewhouse at the harbour was a good sized hearty meal in small but nice restaurant/bar. The Signal Tower Museum is worth a visit for history on the Bell Rock Lighthouse. We walked the coastal path north, my husband walked about 11 miles to Lunan Bay, signposts were ok, but skirting around farms and small villages was long, but interesting. Montrose is also good for a visit, especially for bird watchers around the tidal basin and coastal rivers. All around is excellent area to explore and walk, we had good dry weather which is always a bonus.Guest review byHilaryUnited Kingdom
