This hotel was exceptional in everyway. Quiet, large room, comfortable king sized bed and the sound of the stream through the windows was so tranquil. Staff so friendly and helpful. From the beautiful cooked breakfast to the scones and clotted cream every afternoon it just felt like home. Lots of walks from the beautiful Grasmere village. Jump on the bus if you wish to many places. Good restaurants nearby to walk to and tea rooms at the door. Just so relaxing this place. Lots of parking. Great outdoor and indoor space to relax with complimentary beverages. We will be back one day.

I had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was clean, cosy and had everything I needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my visit. The location is perfect — close to shops, restaurants and public transport, yet quiet at night. Breakfast was fresh and varied. A pleasant, comfortable hotel with a warm atmosphere. I’d happily stay again.

This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria.

This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria. However, it has access to all of the lakes, boat trips, walking everything you need for a trip. There are a million climbing/walking shops in the town centre so if you forget anything it's all there. As for food plenty restaurants and cafes some very pricey others not. There is a Weatherspoons there which was packed morning noon and night for food if you don't want to pay for pricey places. There is a nice selection of bars too most do food and some are really foody places rather than bars. Dogs everywhere so if you are allergic - avoid! There is a wonderful supermarket there - Booths - which has everything you need if you are catering this yourself. Enjoy! If you aren't into climbing/walking then two nights is more than enough for just a relaxing weekend away.

The area was mostly fine.

The area was mostly fine. In some areas the town was looking tired. Absence of any visible street cleaning. We must have passed an area where someone had let their dog foul the pavement at least eight times as we walked up and down to our guest house and back down towards the lake I know it’s individual dog owners where the responsibility lies but even so it’s a big tourist area So one would expect a bit more pride in the area Unfortunately we won’t be rushing back to visit

Bowness is the busiest tourist place in the lakes.

Bowness is the busiest tourist place in the lakes. Whilst some people might not like that, it does have a multitude of places to eat, drink, wander and enjoy the vista. Please try Porta, I have been visiting the restaurant for over 30 years, it is fabulous and for me is a must visit venue. I know it’s touristy, but that’s for a reason, it is a really nice place to be.

There is plenty to see in Ambleside with an excellent range of shops and places to eat. There was lots of live music over the weekend. We saw a fantastic jazz band at Zeffireli's. Our biggest disappointment was Hill Top - make sure you book in advance otherwise they won't let you park in the carpark and visit the property.

Has a nice period 'feel'.

Has a nice period 'feel'. Lots of one-off shops and very few national chain stores. Quite hilly, which could be challenging in slippery conditions. The promenade provides an excellent, uncluttered walk along the marshy coastline, particularly in good weather. Lots of great, family-run restaurants and 'eating pubs'. Provides a civilised alternative to the popular holiday resorts.
