We just stayed for one night at the Portishead Chef and Brewer on our travels. The family room was lovely and spacious with 3 good sized beds for the four of us to sleep in. The attached bathroom was gorgeous and very clean. The location was convenient for walking into the town for dinner, and for walking to the rocky beach behind the venue to look at the sea and over to Wales. The staff were very attentive to any needs as well. I would recommend staying here.

These guys are nailing the perfect service that there’s no way you’d get in so many other places. The proprietors and every one of their amazing team, are friendly, polite and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast was bang on. Garden space for nice evenings. A lovely little daytime bar. Parking spaces. On the front. Don’t let folks saying about noise put you off, seagulls are present, yes, as they are in all seaside towns, I think in any hotel you’d hear them around! We didn’t have any problem with noise, in fact I couldn’t believe how quiet it was after 10:30pm, and we stayed a three night weekend. Absolutely loved it. Keep doing what you’re doing, you work long days, and go the extra mile for people. We had an amazing weekend, and can’t thank you all enough. Claire and Jo.

FAQs about hotels in England

The Small Country with Big Appeal

For a relatively small country, England certainly manages to pack in a wealth of tourist attractions, from Land’s End all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Words can’t do justice to the capital London - an exciting mix of famous sights, royalty and vibrant life. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are fabulous cities that have emerged from their industrial past to be cutting-edge centres of culture.

Newcastle, Leeds and Bristol are well known for their buzzy music scene, while sedate Oxford and Cambridge are famous for their universities and punting. Stately York still maintains its city walls and Windsor has the wonderful castle where the Queen often resides.

Sheffield and Derby border the magnificent Peak District, while the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are close to Blackpool, one of England’s favourite beach destinations. Other very popular beaches are in Brighton, Eastbourne, Torquay and Scarborough.

With a beautifully rugged coastline, mystical Cornwall has England hotels in the country, as do the Cotswolds where stone houses line picturesque villages. The Georgian spa cities of Bath and Harrogate also have impressive stone architecture.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what England has to offer, but wherever you visit, you can be sure that Booking.com has a fantastic range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in England to choose from.

    I love London.

I love London. Lived there for 10 years and it brought back memories. Go to the Old Compton Brasserie, Old Compton Street, Soho. Smashing food, service, and music. The security fella was brilliant and a very handsome DJ called Deccy was fab. Played all of our tunes and got the floor dancing. We’ve been before many times. Perfect for a night out with any type of group or couples.

The Science and Industry Museum and the Art Gallery are...

The Science and Industry Museum and the Art Gallery are worth a visit. There are surprising pockets of history like Castlefield and Deansgate but they are hidden and need to be discovered. But overall the city is a hodge-podge of bad architecture including a lot of new tall towers placed senselessly throughout the city. The Chapel Street where the hotel is located is visually depressing - rundown buildings and dirty lanes wherever one looks. Obviously there seemed to be no city planning vision and willingness to keep the city clean. Streets are dirty, garbage all over especially in side streets and along the canals. Eating out is expensive for this type of city and 10 - 12.5% service charge is common. Trains station and airport are outdated and not up to snuff. But that is the reason for travelling to experience the unknown.

We only stayed for a short trip as my friend is still working, she had never been to Blackpool before, I have many times. Blackpool has something for everyone and there are always things to do and places to eat for all tastes and pocket. As a Weatherspoons fan -there are three, so you know what food you can get and drinks are great value, even though extremely busy in the evening, service there was quick on the one evening we ate there. Easy travel with the trams, buses or ponies with carriages, as a disabled person I still managed and found the pavements generally quite level to walk. Multi attraction tickets bought in advance are a good saving for things like the Tower, Tussauds etc etc

The Minster guides and guided tours are really helpful and informative. They point out all sorts of features one might miss otherwise. Go to see the Treasurer's House behind the Minster for a quirky and interesting house tour, lovely garden and a nice cafe with good soup and scones. The Merchant Adventurer's Hall right across the road from our rental property was new to me and well worth a visit with a nice not too crowded cafe and garden too.
