Our room was huge, with a very comfortable bed, stunning views, and a nice big bathroom. The grounds are exquisite, and the forest walk was lovely. We loved everything about our stay. The best part about staying at Crathorne Hall though is the magical staff. Martin and Gloria made us feel like family, and their personal attention was the difference that made the difference. THANK YOU!

The town centre is nice enough, has some interesting buildings. There are 2 stunning old steel bridges and some other references to the era of cool and steel. It's a town in change to newer industries. For city tourists probably not that great, but quite some interesting references to the past. And the surroundings offer different possibilities from hiking (rosberry topping), over history (different Captain Cook references) to seaside pleasures (Redcar, Saltburn, Whitby)

The town is not too busy although a bit run down especially near the accommodation. The traffic was not bad at all times for a central area. Did not visit much of the main town area except nearby seaside resorts.

If it hadn’t been for a family wedding, I would not have chosen to visit Hartlepool. The town felt very run down, with many shops closed and little to do. It came across as a sad and struggling area. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of racial incidents, which made us feel uncomfortable. If you are a person of colour, this may not feel like a welcoming or friendly place to visit.

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory days (before the peers were demolished) with the refurbishment of the town centre. The beach is long and sandy and the sea water clear and swimmable if you avoid the rocks. The promenade is worth a walk, passed the fishing boats and the oldest lifeboat in the world museum. Not many restaurants but plenty of cafes.

Great beach with lots of activity to watch. Surfers, swimmers, horse riders, pier. We were blessed with brilliant weather which helped. Downside is getting up and down to the beach, I counted 181 steps. There is the funicular tram on the cliff which helps. Plenty of places to eat and very clean. Would revisit.

As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. The on-street parking is a real bonus - used to be free (time-limited), but is now very reasonably priced, and still enables visitors to be at the centre of things immediately.

Staithes is a wonderful old fishing village, wonderful views of the coast and moors I would visit again Over our visit we ate in all 3 pubs, The Cod and Lobster served wonderful fresh fish the lobster was to die for We visited The Captain Cook at the top of the hill for Sunday lunch, the beef roast dinner, it was cooked to perfection and the choice of vegetables was second to none. The Royal George became our second home quite near to the cottage we were staying in. The mouth watering crab sandwich that is served with a small salad, crisps or chips, is mouth watering. Just what you need when you are drinking a local brewed beer.

Easy to travel to by car, just off main road.

Easy to travel to by car, just off main road. Easy access to market town of Guisborough, not far from Middlesbrough, country views. Went to Pinchinthorpe for breakfast, approx one mile away. Great place just for breakfast or to set off for a hill or forest walk, small exhibition. Very child snd dog friendly. The CrossKeys isn't in the village of Nunthorpe but is a short car journey away.
