The people were very friendly.
The people were very friendly. The range of shops, bars, restaurants was excellent. The station, castle, market square were all wonderful. Walk down to the falls. The bar 29 on Frenchgate is outstanding and Tara is just a superb host. Fiona in the Castle Tavern was lovely. The restaurant at the Fish and Chip shop upstairs was great .Guest review byNicholas - 10.0

We had one night in Stainforth and had a lovely walk along the river to see the salmon leaping. We didn’t see any salmon but enjoyed our time in the beautiful countryside and enjoyed a great breakfast at The Nettle in Settle!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Breathtaking scenery.
Breathtaking scenery. It’s like stepping back into a simpler time, the town itself is so quaint and friendly but the countryside walks are to die for. It’s like a walking through a real live painting! Highly recommend a visit and doing some walks.Guest review bySmith - 10.0
The village was quaint .
The village was quaint . The waterfall trail was amazing ,a must if you stay here or are just visiting for the day . The locals were so friendly and helpful . I wanted to do white scar caves but I read you had to bend down and squeeze through in places which I didn’t feel comfortable doing unfortunately. Countryside was stunning so many villages to discover in the area .Guest review byTonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
3 pubs in the village.
3 pubs in the village. We visited 2 that were both friendly, and well run. Picturesque location in the Yorkshire Dales with large village green and shop. Convenient for The Herriot Way and The Coast to Coast walks.Guest review byPhilipUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Fabulous place to visit.
Fabulous place to visit. Lots of walking options including easy and accessible as well as longer and more challenging day hikes. Some evening good options including the village with others a short drive or longer walk away.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom - 8.0

On our first stay in 2019 we did a lot of walking and looking at incredible waterfalls. On our second stay in 2025 it was raining most of the time as a storm came through, but it didn't stop us getting out for two days of visiting Bolton Castle with an excellent tour, Grassington (where All Creatures Great and Small was staged) and a very interesting small historical museum, Wensleydale and of course, lunch and cheeses at Wensleydale Creamery Cafe!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Caw Cottage is simply wonderful.
Caw Cottage is simply wonderful. It has everything you will need for a relaxing stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Perfectly placed to explore this beautiful area and with Sedbergh just a few miles down the road with a number of good pubs/restaurants, everything is within easy reach. Caw Cottage is very well maintained and spotlessly clean. The bed is super comfortable too. The hosts are nearby, very friendly and helpful, but very respectful of your privacy. Caw Cottage is a gem of a place. Well worth the visit.Guest review byJulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I loved the decor, the facilities.
I loved the decor, the facilities. The owners have added all those practical things that most places dont have - hooks for coats, hooks for clothes in the bathroom, mirrors with lights where needed, bedside tables and lamps, enough pillows for reading in bed. We used the walking maps provided to do lovely local walks. We ate great food in local pubs. The roads are quiet, the views are superb.Guest review byBethUnited Kingdom
