FAQs about hotels in Wales
Land of the Hills and the Dales
A land of magnificent mountains, centuries-old castles and beautiful beaches, Wales is steeped in proud tradition. A centre of culture, its elegant capital Cardiff houses some of the 5-star hotels in Wales on Booking.com.
Swansea has several Wales hotels with swimming pools and is the gateway to the tranquil Gower Peninsula. It was also the birthplace of Dylan Thomas, whose famous boathouse is in Laugharne near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Within this park are St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, and the colourful South Wales beach resort of Tenby. Other beach resorts include the university town of Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Prestatyn with its Blue-Flag beach. Popular Llandudno has a long pier sheltered by a headland.
Also with a pier is Bangor, opposite Anglesey - a rugged island known for wildlife. It looks back towards Snowdonia National Park, whose changing landscapes encompass Wales’ tallest mountain. Within the park are serene Bala Lake and Betws-y-Coed whose fast-flowing river becomes the Swallow Falls.
The Brecon Beacons house more lush peaks, while Chepstow to the south-east has a racecourse and riverfront Norman castle. Other fantastic Wales castles are in Conwy, Harlech and Caernarfon – possibly the best of them all.
Wrexham is the largest North Wales town with great nightlife, while nearby Llangollen is best known as for its International Eisteddfod.

Brilliant weekend. If you like your food go to the Truffles restaurant it was amazing. Also go to The Observatory on the beach for coffee and breakfast, it is really quirky and fantastic food. Go to the Sky Bar on the 28th floor as the views are astounding .Guest review byLyndaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I went for one night to see a football match, but had a wander round in the afternoon. Saw old ruins of a castle by the river but it looked all shut up and there was no boards stating if it were accessible. Nice new concourse on the riverbank by the millenium bridge, but some parts of the older town near the station are a bit seedy. Plenty of the new breed of town dweller,( foreign, young, male and unemployed)Guest review byJIMUnited Kingdom - 10

Try the Umi restaurant for a Special night out, the food was delicious. The 5 Arches pub provide great food and live music 🎵 3 days a week. Beaches are always clean ideal for Autumn walks. The Tasty Cafe Chinese take away is well worth it, Ribs in Peking sauce are to die for. Curries are great with plenty of choice for all tastes. Prices are very good.👍 Tenby is very flat shopping wise bit a few steep hills to get down to the beaches.Guest review byPamelaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

There is enough to do for a few days out of season and it is an interesting place. Some parts of the town are tired but it was a lot better than many seaside towns. Vale of Rheidol railway and Devil's bridge is a must. EV charging in the car parks while you are on the train as well. What not to like.Guest review byTrevorUnited Kingdom - 10

Everything about Conwy is so beautiful , including where we stayed . The only down side is finding a good place to eat in the evening , a lot of the places we visited from our stay in march 2025 and more recently sept 2025. Not very good quality of food , small portions for a very high price , one of our best meals was actual in a lovely bistro , after visiting snowdon .Guest review byAnonymous - 10
Loved Betws-y-coed! Such a pretty place.
Loved Betws-y-coed! Such a pretty place. Quite small but lots of independent, quality shops. Nice places to eat and drink throughout the day and the evening and it felt very safe to walk around after dark. Road network is good, we had no problems finding parking spaces (our accommodation had no on-site parking), some was free on street parking but when we had to resort to designated car parks, they weren’t extortionate which was a nice surprise. Would quite happy return there againGuest review byJoanneUnited Kingdom - 10

Llangollen is a lovely little town, The canal trip over the aqueduct is lovely and we had a pleasant cream tea on board while watching the world go by. If you book far enough in advance you can also go on a horse drawn canal trip. The steam train excursions are lovely and there are lots of quirky little shops and good places to eat throughout the town. Portmeirion isn't too far away and is a lovely day out. You can do loads of water sporting activities if you're that way inclined, it's very popular. Bala Lake is not too far away as well, all in all you can be as active or sedate as you please. Lovely place.Guest review byValUnited Kingdom - 10
You can never have too long in Llanberis area!
You can never have too long in Llanberis area! The mountains & lakes are stunning, and there is so much else to explore too. Snowdonia has a magical quality to it that makes it so special. Llanberis is also a great base from which to explore outlying places e.g. during my trip, as well as completing my main goals of climbing Snowdon and Tryfan, I took daytrips from Llanberis to Caernarfon and Anglesey on one day and Llandudno & Conwy on the other, visiting castles, National Trust properties and beaches on teh way. The various driving routes to and from these places back to Llanberis were a joy in themselves. The nearby Pen-y-Gwryd hotel is so interesting, steeped in mountaineering / Everest history - although it was lovely to have the place almost to myself to look around, it is a shame it is not promoted a bit more as a place to visit for a cup of tea / place to stay.Guest review bySerenaUnited Kingdom
