The staff was amazing...Dave was exceptional!!! Thank you again!! I came early to check in and discuss with the staff that I was planning to propose to my now Fiancé. Everyone was listening to all the details and taking notes. Dave walked me up to my room and we went over everything, he also added things he could do to make everything even more perfect, which it was a most memorable evening!! I ordered the Romance package, and it was delivered with personal instructions flawlessly. Also, they recommended reserving a table at the bar, which felt like the most amazing table in the bar. The room was perfect. Everything was stunning!! Everyone was so pleasant and greeted you every chance they got. The breakfast the next day was so wonderful and in a very quiet setting. Options seemed endless as to cater to anyone's needs. We were entranced by the decor throughout. Absolutely one of the best places we have ever stayed!! We were very happy with the Red Lion. The staff was lovely, everything was spotless, the room was beautifully furnished, the beds comfy, the black-out blind a plus and the bathroom very nice. Security was taken very seriously, which was reassuring. The breakfast was excellent. Freshly cooked to order and absolutely delicious. We much prefer this system to a buffet and it saves on wastage. All in all an exceptionally good stay.

The Royal Hotel was a visit of nostalgia for me, as I had stayed there as a child over fifty years ago. The staff, knowing this, were extremely pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is currently going through some updating but the 'bones' of the design are as they were. Special thanks go to Adamo and Lewis for their hospitality and helpfulness.

Superb architecture and faded grandeur, a touch of Victorian class and an opportunity to see into how tourists in the past enjoyed their holidays. So many beautiful features if you wander around - galleries, balconies with sumptuous old furniture, grand staircases, framed photos from a lost time. Just wonderful.

Loved the town, daughter has her heart set on Hallam uni now. Keep an eye on which way you walk in and out of the city from the hotel as there were dodgy areas, like any city. Loved the fact that the centre is almost all pedestrianised. Had a fab meal in Bella Italia.

The city itself is not so very interesting, but it is an excellent location for countless wonderful trips to other nearby cities, towns and countryside, very easily accessible by train or bus. Doncaster town is very depressing.

Doncaster town is very depressing. Big shops moved out and lots of shops closed entirely. Such a shame. We lived here for eleven years and moved with work but come back frequently to see friends. From the bank HSBC up Hallgate to the top is a very sad sight. Money needs investing to make it lovely again.
