From here, you can use a bus to reach Kiato, Corinth and Athens very cheaply. It is a beautiful town with nice monuments and ancient traditions. Pleasant city, active nightlife, many shops and excellent cuisine. From the Gulf of Patra you enter the Peloponnese. Monemvasia is a lovely village built at the base of an island reachable by a bridge. There are two great spots to swim on the island side of the bridge, on of which is quite sheltered by rocks so we were able to take a dip although the wind and waves were strong. Loutraki is a nice place for relaxation and pampering. You could swim at Loutraki beach. Be aware that the beach has big pebbles. It is more comfortable to have water shoes with you. Tolo has a great beach, protected and shallow for families, but with good snorkelling there or very close by. There's an excellent range of places to eat and drink, some right on the beach and others on the main street - not too much traffic. Pedalos, kayaks, boat trips all available from Tolo. Nafplio is the nearest large town, which is about 10-15 minutes drive. There's a market, castle and lovely old town area. Gythio was phenomenal, a true gem of the Peloponnese! Everything you need, from high end restaurants to wonderful shops. Very tourist friendly town. Amazing views of the sea from every angle! Saga Fish Restaurant in Gythio is an absolute must for seafood. We were a five minute drive from Gythio. We stayed at Thirides Beach Resort. I love Korinthos. For maybe idiosyncratic reasons. It is close to Athens, so if you fly in and rent a car for a long drive; this is a close stopover rest city for a couple of days if you don't want the chaos of driving into Athens from the airport with jetlag. I always do Athens on the way out, and Korinthos is always my first night. The nightlife is local and late-night. The beaches are local and easy, laid-back.
