FAQs about hotels in Istria
Land of History, Sun and Wine
The land of stony beaches, sapphire seas and rocky mountains, Istria is the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a popular tourist destination famous for its cuisine, weather and wine.
Istria has been a part of many powerful empires: the Byzantine, Roman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and more recently, Yugoslavian. Each of them has left an easily recognisable mark on the architecture, giving you an opportunity for a crash course in the region’s fascinating past just by travelling around.
The Brijuni Islands are a must-see for that reason. They were once President Tito’s private property with a large zoo, over 200 dinosaur footprints and a never-ending stream of international guests, including heads of state and Hollywood film stars.
Located near the Brijuni is the largest city of the Istria region, Pula, best-known for the beautiful Roman architecture and tranquil countryside surrounding it, as well as for its winemaking and fishing traditions.
Whether you’re visiting Pula or other towns like Pazin, Porec or Opatija, make sure to visit local restaurants and try Italian-influenced dishes with famous Istrian peppers, truffles and seafood. Finish your meal with grappa or a glass of sweet wine - the best comes from the Kalavojna region.
Istria is a diverse region and Booking.com offers equally diverse properties. From boutique hotels to comfortable apartments, you have a range of nearly 600 properties to choose from.

- From US$105.71 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 3,321 reviewsStayed in camping villas prestige - they are modern, looking very new and have pretty much everything you need. Beautiful terraces to enjoy cricket sounds in summer evenings. Also, the surroundings are beautiful - nature, forest, beaches, as well as very good facilities (pools, welness centre, playgrounds, supermarket etc.). The whole camping area is so well integrated into the nature and respecting the nature instead of just cutting down the whole forest and building something ugly made of pure concrete, which we loved. Many different birds, and we even saw hedgehogs and rabbits - the children were so excited. The main restaurant was very good and prices are reasonable. The beach bar as well. The staff are generally very polite and helpful across the different facilities. We would definitely come back.Guest review byDael MaelleFinland

The location is fantastic: with the private beach right in front of the hotel, nice green walking areas accessible almost directly from the hotel and the city centre at 10mins walking through the beautiful port. Our dog also loved it, as it is a real pet-friendly hotel with very good room and balcony size. Great service as well from all the employees and amazing food in all their restaurants. 100% recommended :)Guest review byCristinaSpain

From the hotel to the city takes a train until late in the evening (cash 4 eur) Friendly staff. Our tent/house didn't have a hammock because it wasn't premium but I asked at the reception if it'd be possible to get one and on the next day I had one arranged. The hotel staff is well-instructed and they offered amazing service. In rest: all clean, nice, peaceful, and amazing sunsets in hammock. :)Guest review bySVazdautanSwitzerland

The town was perfect size so walking is easy for everyone. Please note the cobbled streets can be a little slippery so fancy high heeled shoes are a No-No! The local people are kind and friendly and everyone is catered for. Little tip:- book restaurants early to avoid disappointment not obtaining a reservation.Guest review byjohn allardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The old town is interesting with the Arena, Castle and the colourful cranes. There are interesting tunnels under the castle on two levels which date from the 1st and 2nd World Wars. There are trains and buses to Roving, Pazin, Labin and the Brijuni National Park. Some good restaurants such as The Jupiter which does Pizza as well as seafood, pasta and grills.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The town of Umag has a charming coastal feel particularly at the historic centre. There are plenty of food options, lovely sunsets and a motorised 'train' to transport people from their resorts and hotels to the town for only 4€. Prices overall are very reasonable compared to other European destinations.Guest review byVincentUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Vrsar was charming and small, much more welcoming than over-crowded Rovinj. We got a nice welcome and great tips from our host and felt a much more local-friendly vibe. Services were good quality and there were fewer tourist traps than in Rovinj. Overall a very cosy, relaxing experience, I wish we could have stayed longer.Guest review byVeraHungary - 6.0

Very busy town very clearly oriented to beach tourists, little to no historical or scenic attractions. Traffic is a nightmare in the mornings and evenings. A few traffic lights at pedestrian crossings would probably improve flow overall.Guest review byAlexanderSweden - 8.0

Fazana is a pretty little place with plenty of places to eat and a few shops but very little to do at night. We went at the end of September so I can imagine it being a lot busier in the summer months. The local buses were great but maybe having a car allows you to see more of the area.Guest review byPhillips - 6.0

Rabac has is a pretty but v small beach front village. If you don't expect much its fine but there is not a lot to do round there and buses are few and far between and taxis expensive in relation to distance.Guest review byJHESLIN1United Kingdom - 10.0

Great little town to walk around in. Great local wineries. Amazing local fruit stand as you make your way up the hill. He had the best selection of the most wonderful fruit and veggies. The ice cream was fantastic. Sampling of truffles and local alcohol without being pressured was amazing. Just fantastic hospitality overall shown by the locals.Guest review byJadCanada
