I stayed in the Swanky Royal, which is a couple of houses down from the main Swanky hostel, where the reception is. The room was freshly renovated, nice and clean. The windows were towards the courtyard so it was quiet even though the building is located at a busy street. The location was great, right in the center, within walking distance to all attractions. Breakfast was amazing (besides the regular musli/eggs breakfast you can try Asian inspired dishes)- there was more food than you can eat. The only minus- the restaurant is located by the main building, so you need to dress up and walk outside. And it was good value.

The archaeology and technical museums are good....

The archaeology and technical museums are good.... Zagreb has a very compact center but in the center a LOT of buildings including the cathedral, many churches, museums etc. are 'temporarily' closed due to the earthquake that hit the area in 2020. They are all under restoration covered with scaffolding , tarpaulins, screens so not very photogenic. When will they open? Who knows but not soon. Looking at progress so far it could be many years. Also the Greek Orthodox Cathedral is in a 'secure' area and no-one can go near it. The Mirogoj cemetary (which in itself is spectacular and massive) also requires extensive repair and restoration which has not even started - fallen debris is still on the ground - what a shame and lack of respect for the families who cannot get to there relatives gravestones only see them through a mesh fence. Of the two museums we visited both are excellent and good for the entrance fee - Archaelogy museum has excellent Egyptian artifacts and mummies , the Tesla museum very nice aircraft exhibits plus actual live beehives which are amazing. Overall disappointed with Zagreb and a visit to Budapest, Prague, Vienna etc is much more worthwhile until the Croatians can get their capital city back in order.

For a one night stop over ideal.

For a one night stop over ideal. I guess as a base for visiting Zagreb would have also been okay but maybe a touch too far from the city. That said it wasn’t too far from a supermarket and a bus stop to get into Zagreb.

Host offered us tea/coffee/juice when we arrived. We felt at home. She left snacks and cheese plate in the fridge for us. Although we are there for a short night's stay prior to our flight in the early morning, we felt that we could have easily stayed there longer. Very nice room at the back of the house where host stays. Private parking is good. Nice quiet neighborhood.

We spent three days (two nights) in Zagreb which was just enough to enjoy the city and its attractions. However on Sunday everywhere is closed inducing most restaurants, so there is not much to do if you are there on Sunday. Shops open from Monday to Saturday. The public tram system is excellent and easily manageable using the tram map. Food and restaurants are not that expensive and there are enough clothes shops to chose from, the reasonably priced to the high end type.

Velika Gorica is a cosy town with a selection of good restaurants. I especially recommend the Mexican restaurant. It's not for young people who want to party, as everything seems to close at 9-10PM and in Sundays everthing is closed, even the bakeries.

the room is very nice but in the pictures they don't show all the humidity that is on the walls of the room that is hidden behind the curtains... it is a waste of money to pay to breathe humidity while you are in the room... the host was very disrespectful to me, because according to him I stole the hair dryer from the room simply because he didn't see it in the same place it was. Please make sure before calling a person a thief whether it is true or not. I am still waiting for an apology. Ridiculous

I chose Velika Gorica because it was close to the airport, but could have easily spent another day there visiting the shops and cafes. It would be a great place to stay for a few days of downtime. Unfortunately, I was only there for one night.
