FAQs about hotels in Bali

An Island Dream

The dream destination of Bali is where volcanic landscape meets lush rice terraces and pristine beaches. Not to mention the fantastic surfing, cheap shopping and pervading spirituality that have made this Indonesian island a long-time favourite for backpackers.

The island’s capital is Denpasar in the south, but its surf and party capital is nearby Kuta. Swaying palm trees line the beach here and many more cover the grounds of the Bali hotels on the beach in more exclusive Seminyak to the north.

On the island’s north coast, Pemuteran beach offers lovely views of the sloping mountains heading towards the Bali Sea. Many beaches on this coast are black sand, including sweeping Lovina beach from where dolphins can often be seen. Tulamben in the east is one of the better diving resorts in Bali, while Sanur is a popular option for families.

Ubud is the island’s cultural capital and houses a monkey sanctuary in its jungle-like landscape. An ancient Hindu temple is found here, but the best-known temple is Tanah Lot, surrounded by water. There are also hundreds of fantastic spas in Bali, as well as meditation and yoga classes that you can join.

Whether you choose to stay inland or by the beautiful coastline, Booking.com has a great range of villas, guest houses and hotels in Bali.

Our time in Sideman has been an absolute highlight of our Bali trip. The team at Patal Kikian is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay. We loved the scooter tour with our guide, Satria—exploring Sideman and meeting the locals was such a unique and enriching experience. I can’t recommend this place enough! Be sure to try the scooter tour and indulge in the Balinese massage at the spa. A perfect combination for relaxation and adventure!

Six senses is a truly magical place. It’s a stunning property on the cliffs of Uluwatu with beautiful private villas and well-designed common spaces like the pool area and the spa. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful especially Komang Mertayasa did an excellent job with getting me settled in and organizing day trips to tue Uluwatu temple. The peaceful Ubud of old has gone, and the artistic centre of Bali, is but a memory!! Regrettably, the Seminyak/Canggu crowd have discovered it, and traffic is terrible, with Jalan Monkey Forest a wall of cars and motorbikes in the evenings. The corner of Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Rays rivals the Ginza in Tokyo for crowds!! The main roads from the south, and to Tegalalang, are frequently car parks, with no movement for extended periods. The early morning market along Jln Raya, opposite the palace, is worth a visit, but it's all gone by about 0900, so be early. Restaurants are plentiful, generally good, although I haven't eaten at them all, and probably the best area for concenrated restaurants, is Jln Goutama, also known as Eat Street. I go there for nostalgic reasons, having first visited in 1979, but nowadays stay only one night enroute north coast to Kuta via Kintamani. I do recommend Fair Warung Bale, #6 Jln Sri Wedari, a five minute walk from the palace, as a place to eat. The food is good, great staff, and the reason for their being is that all profits go to providing medical services to the poor!! I eat there at least once every visit.

this is an up and coming area in Bali. it looks like it will be upmarket from the shops, bars and restaurants that are already there. Its very busy and the traffic is hectic ( as is everywhere in Bali). Its a younger persons place as plenty of parties and activities. Would recommend to anyone under 40 that wants a hip vibe and action. if your older stick to Sanur

Uluwatu is certainly the tourist destination for fitness and wellness lovers, or those that love the coast. The locals are extremely welcoming, and whilst I don't necessarily recommend it, you can travel most of it on foot compared to the rest of the island. The businesses are a lot more westernised and is a great first stop for your Bali trip experience.

2nd trip to Sanur and in Candidasa now but will go back to Sanur for last week. Love it. The footpath construction is neverending so look out for that but the beach area around Icon and south to Maya is awesome. No hassling on the beach, love the beach side walk end to end, amazing plant based cafes and restaurants and daily coffee at Kopi Kiosk and yoga at KOA Shala. Divine

I loved everything I saw here, just wish I could have stayed...

I loved everything I saw here, just wish I could have stayed longer. I stayed at Prapat Beach, which was close enough to Penida Ferry Port and stunning, with an amazing view of Agung on a clear day. My accomodation was in a great spot and is as advertised. Sari Nadi Beach Stay is only a few k's from the harbour but with traffic, it took around 30mins. I did a tour of West island beaches, which I found disappointing because it was so busy, shoulder-to-shoulder busy! It felt it was impossible to really enjoy it with so many people. The walk down to Kelingking Beach might have been worth it if you didn't have to keep stopping for someone to get their perfect shot! The drive through the countryside was worth it alone though, and if your new to the island, it's a great way to get your bearings for a return visit. Crystal Beach was my pick of the beaches, just don't forget to bring a towel or change to hire one and a bed. Otherwise, you can sit at a table. Overall, I can't wait to go back! One tip, check if there are any days of (religious) observance when you stay. My stay coincided with Nyepi Laut, 'Silence of the Ocean' which means no water activity, great for me because it meant peace and quiet but not if you needed to travel that day.

This is a great place to stay - plenty of shops, massage and restaurants - the beach is lovely with a lot going on all the time. Some good restaurants right on the beach and lots of surf schools etc. There are lifeguards in one area, not always marked and in the same place every day - not moved to the safest swim area. But there are nearly always very competent surfers around and lots of people keeping an eye out. But take care, the currents can be changeable. We keep coming back to this area.

Great hotel in the middle of some lovely restaurants.

Great hotel in the middle of some lovely restaurants. Rooms are tired in need of upgrades and painting , but were clean and a very powerful shower. Staff were amazing and a good buffet breakfast with fresh omelette/pancakes. Pool area was relaxing and could do with a few more sunbeds. Didn’t get to the beach but a good shuttle service available. Supermarket and ATM just across the road.
