GermanySt. John’s B&B couldn’t have been nicer! Although we arrived late in the evening, Marie was welcoming and showed us to our very clean room. She asked us at what time we wanted our breakfast and had a full Irish (and some 😃) ready for us the next morning. Her homemade scones and brown bread were sensational. Out the dining room windows we saw their new calf and met Patch, their terrier mix dog. Marie gave us tips, maps, and info on what see in the area and gave us a tour of St. John’s old schoolhouse that is also available to book for a stay. It’s adorable! I can’t say enough about Marie and John’s hospitality and kindness. I hope to see them again if I make it to Ireland!

United StatesRonald and Maureen are exceptional hosts and wonderful people. It was great to get to know them during our short stay; they are so wholesome and feel like long-lost family! They were very accommodating on check-in time and helped escort us to our destination when our transportation fell through. The rooms are spacious and boast scenic views of the countryside. They made us a wonderful breakfast before our day's journey. We only wish we had more time with them! We certainly hope to be back again one day. Thank you for everything Maureen and Ronald! P.S. We miss the dogs, too!

Great place to stay.We spent a night in one of the castle rooms and had a beautiful view of the lake. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing! The whole stay was very relaxing. The staff were excellent too. We spent the morning before breakfast down at the pool and the jacuzi, sauna - was lovely and went for a walk around the lake. Attractive town but limited facilities - no obvious public toilets and many of the store's ones were 'out of order', where available good - necessary if you have children or are getting on a bit. Beautiful park, fun all day pub eatery with a train inside, There is also a train service but not many trains - station facilities only available when a train was due. The hotel was a one night layover on the way back to Dublin. The staff, the hotel decor and and food was excellent. The bed was very comfortable but the room lacked ventilation, no fan or air conditioning. Only one window opened to a noisy road. Strokestown is a very quiet town and apart from Strokestown Park House and the National Famine Museum has little else for the average tourist. It is however ideally located just west of the Shannon in the Irish Midlands and is an excellent touring base. Its appeal is its quiet air and relaxed laid back nature with a couple of pleasant local pubs. Currently there is no restaurant but there are a couple of takeaways and several little Pubs for unwinding at the end of a long day. The ancient Cathedral of Elphin (in ruins) makes for an interesting delve into some long distant history . This is at the end of the main street.. This place is a hidden gem. The hosts took an old, aged but stately colonial and transformed her into an absolutely magnificent, luxurious home. It is right on Lake Arrow, there is a walk to the water and my favorite...a breathtaking walled garden and apple orchard. The home itself is créme de la créme - one of the very best accommodations I have stayed in. Well worth the stop. Waldo and his family were very welcoming and willing to help. Everything was great. Superb warm comfortable room. Spotlessly clean. I really enjoyed the shower experience, it was just amazing and exceptional. The family offered a full Irish breakfast and the value is exceptional. I recommend the property for families or group. None of us had been here before.
None of us had been here before. We did the river tour to Clonmacnoise with Hidden Heartland tours, and despite the awful weather when we were there, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We ate at Thyme restaurant for one of the nights - fabulous. We now have some very good memories to cherish in the future, from the accommodation, tour and meal.Guest review byNoeletteIreland
