However, the hotel immediately sensed that and upgraded me to their nicest room as a way to ensure that I at least had a comfortable end to a long and stressful day. I went to Rishikesh with an open mind to witness the might of the Ganges River, see the temples and join my wife in the participation of the Aarti Ceremony. There are the local habits, roving animals and crazy traffic that may annoy a lot of visitors. But I chose to rise above those and focus on the rituals, temples, monuments, daily activities, Ashrams (retreats) and the view of the Rishikesh valley. The flow of the Ganges and the 3 cable bridges (Ram Jhulla, Lachman Julla, and Janki Jhulla), and the chanting with the ceremonies in the evenings were mesmerizing, humbling and a joy to the soul. Prayer at Harmandir Sahib on the 400th Guru Purb day with all the festive atmosphere was divine. Prayer at Durgiana temple was mesmerizing. Shraddhanjali at Jalianwala Bagh was emotional.
