Came for The Last Supper, but there is so much to see in Milan! Mini Venice at the Navigli District was so nice, free food with aperitif, nights lights at the Duomo and beautiful arcade joining the square was a stunning first night. Sforza Castle, Arco della Pace & Sempione Park, lovely trams and cafés, and got a seat at La Latteria for supper! Day trip to lake Como, fun waterfall at Bellano, beautiful Bellagio, stunning views from the ferries, with sunset over the amazing garden at Lenno. Monumental Cemetery of Milan was a brilliant surprise! MASSIVE collection of sculptures and art from the most powerful families in Milan. Free to explore, a peaceful amazing place. Somehow got the window seat at Café Marchesi 1824, tour of amazing La Scala Opera House, beautiful Duomo views and stained glass at the back is a highlight. We visited in mid October.
We visited in mid October. The weather was lovely and I imagine the crowds are smaller than during the summer. Venice still seemed busy but we didn't feel overwhelmed. Book in advance for Saint Mark's Basilica; we didn't and it was sold out the day we tried to visit. Murano is well worth a visit. A water taxi to and from the airport is a real treat and I recommend it if your budget can stretch to it - the drivers seem to prefer cash to cards! We managed to circumnavigate most of the island on the 7 and 4.1 vaporettos and this was a great way to see the sights. Verona is like a mini Florence with beautiful churches and amazing history without the extreme crowds, high prices and extreme touristy feel. It was much easier to get around in, less hectic and overall far friendlier and more fun to visit. The food there was better too and less expensive, more local feeling rather then one big tourist trap. Turin has lots going for it - beautiful boulevards, piazzas, some fantastic museums and great food and wine. Unfortunately our experience was heavily influenced by the pollution which meant that we couldn’t see any views of the city from any of the viewing points (eg the Mole and the basilica). The area of Mestre near the train station is safe and convenient, but not very pretty. Like many cities, it has a large immigrant population, so it doesn't feel very Italian, which you expect to when in Italy. HOWEVER, once you walk to the center of Mestre, about 15 minutes from the train station, or a couple stops by bus/tram, the town center of Mestre is really lovely with a great museum, big pretty square, nice shops and lots of great places to have a spritz and some ciccheti outside, so I definitely recommend people to take the time to see the town center. That said, we did enjoy all the non-Italian places to eat in Mestre, we had some great Indian food, which was a comforting break after eating Italian food for 3 weeks.Guest review byChris and NicoleUnited States - 10.0

One of the most beautiful port cities we've visited; we loved the vibe of the city. Our brief two-night stay just before our cruise was perfect as a first visit, but we would stay longer next time to see more sites. The ones we visited were interesting, mainly because the city is easily walkable. We would explore further afield next time. Lovely location, easy access by road, bus or ferry. Great place to be based in order to explore other towns on Lake Garda. Very good ferry service. The old town of Sirmione is very picturesque, lots of restaurants and shops. Still very busy when we visited in early October and would be even more so in the summer months, quieter in the evenings when day trippers have gone.
