FAQs about hotels in Calabria
Italy’s Best-Kept Secret
Boasting fantastic beach resorts on its 2 coastlines, Calabria forms the toe of the Italian boot. A favourite of Italian holidaymakers, it is in many respects the region that Italy doesn’t want you to know about.
With some of Booking.com’s best Calabria hotels, Tropea has a fabulous beach at the foot of sheer cliffs topped by buildings. Neighbouring Capo Vaticano has beautiful beaches and a craggy coastline, and Scilla is another amazing Tyrhennian coast resort, immortalised in Greek mythology.
Gioia Tauro has an important port, as does Reggio Calabria, the region’s largest city and birthplace of Gianni Versace. It has an excellent archaeological museum housing the Riace bronzes – Greek statues from the 5th century BC. Just north at Villa San Giovanni, trains drive straight onto ferries to Messina in Sicily.
Inland is Aspromonte National Park, one of Calabria’s top tourist sights, while the Pollino National Park is in the north. Its nearest city is Cosenza with a tranquil old town and 13th-century castle. South is Lamezia Terme, site of the region’s main airport, and nearby Catanzaro is the Calabrian capital.
Crotone on the Ionian coast has a long, sandy beach, as does Soverato. Roccella Ionica’s beach is overlooked by a 16th-century castle, and inland Gerace is one of Italy’s best preserved medieval villages.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 64 reviewsWe came without any prior research of the property, just in last minute decision... and first day was cultural shock :), but at the end of the day we like it so much, because of the quietness of the property, stunning sunsets, beachfront, the storey of the plot, with the highest part being about 60 meters above sea level where was our apartment situated. Also there are a shuttle who moves you up or down if you are not relay on your legs :) - The apartment was well conditioned and dries the air, cause the humidity outside was extremely high :) - The beds was comfy - The parking lot was near to the flat - There was two swimming pools, one on our level with SPA and one with salt water on the sea level. - The bar and the restaurant prepares typical Italian cuisines - At the end, but not last, the staff was so friendly and politeGuest review byKavrakirovBulgaria

I loved the views and the variety of spots to relax from high up in town to down close to the sea. The wind and cooler temperatures stopped us from entering the water however, as the sea temperature is still quite temperate there were many swimmers early October.Guest review byStephen TriscariAustralia - 6.0

This hotel is located close to the train station and offers a good breakfast. The walk to city center is short but there isn't much there. Reggio is a one night layover to use the airport or train service.Guest review byLYLEUnited States - 6.0

Lamezia Terme is not the most exciting place to stay, but prices there are way more affordable than along the coast. It's not that easy to commute to the seaside towns, but doable, you just need quite a lot of timeGuest review byKarolinaPoland - 10.0

This was my second one-day visit to Cosenza, and I still haven't had time to fully explore. However, both the historic part and the modern centre are extensive, so are worth more time. I haven't yet explored beyond the old town for restaurants, but there is a good trattoria with friendly service next to the cathedral. (Calabria Bella)Guest review byDeryk MayerItaly - 10.0

Spectacular setting with 3 "dimensions": Beach area, fishing village around the hill by the sea and old town up the steep hill. Climbing up and down the stairs a bit challenging but views worth the effort.Guest review byTimoFinland - 10.0

great sea for snorkeling but sometimes jellyfish on Grotticelle beach (very painful for kids) - in Tropea no jellyfish and calm sea all the times. in summer has the area problems with water supply - before check-in ask the owner of the property of the state of water in the tanks (we had bad luck in July, our apartment ran out of water twice a week - very stressful) the beaches of Capo Vaticano are available by car (parking is for 1,50 Eur/hour) or on foot 20min walk downhill (but up the hill in hot weather is guite a challenge) snorkeling in this sea is like in an aquarium :-)Guest review byBarboraCzech Republic - 10.0

A beautiful ancient town in Calabria with an ancient atmosphere, wonderful views of the sea, Stromboli and the sunset and not yet so affected by tourism. Right in the town a small but sufficient and beautiful beach, the best swimming far and wide. Excellent accessibility by train from Lamezia or Tropea (.... unless there is a strike or other outage :-o) Tartufo and ice cream at Gelateria Morino are not to be missed!! Very beautiful and refreshing are the two functional fountains in the city center.Guest review byAlesCzech Republic - 6.0

The season opens May 1st, in april everything is closed. Nobody speaks English and at restaurants you have to decide and eat fast. No warm welcome for tourists, they don't care. We only recomnand restaurant Gambero Rosso at the beach and restaurant In, very welcoming.Guest review byIreneNetherlands - 10.0
A great place with nice beaches.
A great place with nice beaches. Not overcrowded like Capo Vaticano or Tropea, the sand is white and coarse (sand is actually better in Capo V.). Due to S.D. being located between C.V. and Tropea, it takes only about 20 min by car to get to the beaches and restaurants in the C.V. and Tropea. Sea water is fantastic. I was lucky to spend most of the vacation there.Guest review byMyroslav_MUkraine - 8.0

The resort was located at a great location by the beach, access from the main street with secure gates. Was a bit hilly and sometimes difficult to walk about, but the resort has a buggy car to provide transport to those that find it hard. Rooms are generous in size depending on room. Views are fantastic from balcony. Pool is large enough and plenty for kids to do. Free use of umbrella and beach beds. Facilities are more than adequate for families and alike.Guest review byGeorgeAustralia
