Stunning Scenery and Remarkable Ruins
Wonderful beach resorts, a wealth of history and winding, cliff-hugging roads – these are just a few reasons why Campania is so admired.
Spreading around a bay, the capital Naples is a mix of monumental architecture and narrow streets. Known for pizza and pulsating life night and day, it extends along the coast towards Pozzuoli, site of a Roman amphitheatre and the Phlegrean Fields volcanic area.
The most notorious volcano is of course Vesuvius, whose eruption in 79AD destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum. The ruins of both are an amazing insight into the sophistication of the Romans. Even older are the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum.
Agropoli sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a beach and harbour, and beautiful Palinuro is at the tip of the Cilento National Park. Other fantastic Campania resorts are on the amazing Amalfi Coast. Ravello, high on a hill, offers stunning coastal views, while Amalfi and Positano cascade down to the sea. Around the peninsula is Sorrento, home to several 5-star Campania hotels, while offshore are the fabulous islands of Capri and Ischia.

We received a generous upgraded room at check in and were also delivered a welcome gift of fruit and sweet and savoury snacks/treats brought to our room just after we arrived. Our room was so unbelievably comfortable, and maid service was perfection, always on hand to replenish toiletries, mini bar or assist to any request. We asked for plates to be cleared from our room on the first evening and when we returned, much later, our housemaid had performed a full bedtime turndown service for us, placing slippers at each side of the bed, drawing blinds, turning on bedside lamps and our bathroom was fully refreshed. Quisisana truly did welcome us and made us feel at home!! Breakfast was also amazing with a young violinist playing in the background! There are so many other great spots in Italy. Naples is NOT one of them. Go somewhere else to really enjoy this country. Sorrento is close, even Rome is better. The country side is where it is really beautiful. Naples is a dirty city with street vendors everywhere.Guest review byschutz - 10.0

Sorrento was a great base for the Amalfi Coast and Naples area. You won’t feel trapped here because there are trains, buses and ferries at your disposal. Sorrento was busy but not overwhelmingly packed like Positano, for example. In the evenings it was relaxing because day trippers were gone. It is flat compared to other coast towns as well, which is nice when you spend a lot of time in Italy walking! Plenty of different sites and activities on the island. Loredana Calise (loredana.calise@libero.it) our taxi driver was fantastic. We had some issues and she was a great help. We spent the day with her traveling to the different cities on the island on our first full day of our week stay. We later went on guided tour of the castle, went to Poseidon thermal spa, walked around San Angelo, visited Giardini la Mortella, saw the mushroom in Lacco Ameno, walked around Forio. Each day with spent morning doing activities and the other half resting. Best pizza was just outside of our resort at Dei Meglio. Great people and great pizza. Great old town, not as crowded as some other spots. We found our favorite restaurant out of our 3 weeks in Italy in the old town, "Osteria Dei Mercanti" the eggplant parmesan was to die for and the servers were all wonderful... Capri is great to explore via taxi, get up early and head up to Ana Capri, less traffic more intimate area. The chair lift is a must to the top of the mountain, and lunch up top of the mountain is amazing. Great base for visiting other villages along the coast. Pretty town with plenty of small shops for gifts and ceramics. Wide range of restaurants, busy ones on the central square and secluded ones up steps and in alleys - all full of character. Limited suppplies for apartment cooking so we had to eat out for all meals but prices the same as UK. La Perla restaurant made excellent gluten free pizza! Positano was fantastic.
Positano was fantastic. We enjoyed great restaurants and shopping. The incredible views will stay in my mind for the rest of my life. We had easy access to boats heading to Capri, which is a “must add” trip you should fit in to your plans. The beach’s are loaded with stone and you must have water shoes to get into the water. We were always at ease with the relaxing vibe that surrounded us. My wife and I will strongly recommend Positano to anyone thinking of heading that way. It is truly magical. Caserta is a pleasant ordinary town. The Royal Palce is jaw dropping and it is a 8E return train ride from Naples. With a car, there are many fantastic Roman sites and a spectacular coastline within 30k. Anacapri is way quieter than Capri.
Anacapri is way quieter than Capri. I see that as a good thing. Anacapri gets busy during the day with all the day trippers... Thanks to the gondola, Blue grotto etc. But once they leave... that's when Anacapri shines. We loved the quiet evenings, the amazing sunsets, the now empty swimming holes...
