Picturesque Island of Volcanic Rock, Thermal Spas and Pristine Beaches
Located 30 km from Naples and formed by a complex volcano, the pristine and breathtaking Ischia Island is Mother Nature’s hidden gem in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is surrounded by an unspoiled coastline, thermal spas, several hiking routes and spectacular scenery.
Built in 474 BC, Aragonese Castle which is perched on natural volcanic rock, is the most impressive historical monument on Ischia Island, and is a modern day reminder of the islands past. Another wonder of island is the Gardens of La Mortella. Filled with tropical and Mediterranean plants, these picture-perfect gardens offer some of the best views over the region and Forio Harbour.
Other attractions on Ischia Island are beaches such as Maronti Beach and Citara Beach. There is also the Angelo Rizzoli Museum, which is a museum of the famous Italian publisher and film producer Angelo Rizzoli, along with the mushroom rock (known to locals as the Fungo) located just off the port of Lacco Ameno. Several local restaurants and bars are scattered around the island serving traditional and local delights.
One of the most interesting and unique areas on Ischia Island is the bay of Citara, and the famous Poseidon thermal Gardens. It features several pools, spas, a traditional Roman Sauna, a private beach and various restaurants. Visitors also have great transportation links by bus around the island.

Lovely island to stay in.
Lovely island to stay in. Spent half a dozen days in Ischia Port, and half a dozen in Forio. Laid back atmosphere in both places (September, nearing end of season), although still busy. Would recommend a boat drip around the island (we used "West Coast" tours out of Forio, they were excellent hosts on a 7 hour day trip). Day trip to Procida out of Ischia Port was also a big plus. Day trip to Sorrento was good, although allow a longer travelling time each way (2 hours each way generally). If there at time of Ischia Port festival (mid september for us) then make sure you get a place early at the port to sit down, get a drink or 2, view the fireworks and display over the port.Guest review byMcfadge65United Kingdom - 10.0

There are so many golden nuggets on this Island that we only touched the tip of what it had to offer. One could easily spend a fortnight here and come away with having experienced so much diversity and uniqueness unlike you would get on a normal beach Island holiday. Giardini la Moretella was very inspiring as were our visits to Forio and St. Angelo. Had we stayed longer we may have done some of the beaches/thermal spas and headed further up the mountains having hired a car.Beware of the buses! Convenient and cheap but not good if you have mobility issues as seats rarely available and lots of twists and turns. Have ended up with bruises so not a comfortable ride. Plenty of different sites and activities on the island. Loredana Calise (loredana.calise@libero.it) our taxi driver was fantastic. We had some issues and she was a great help. We spent the day with her traveling to the different cities on the island on our first full day of our week stay. We later went on guided tour of the castle, went to Poseidon thermal spa, walked around San Angelo, visited Giardini la Mortella, saw the mushroom in Lacco Ameno, walked around Forio. Each day with spent morning doing activities and the other half resting. Best pizza was just outside of our resort at Dei Meglio. Great people and great pizza.
