FAQs about hotels in Salento
A Magic Southern Jewel
Comprising the south part of Italy’s Region of Puglia, the Salento peninsula is located in the ‘heel’ of the Italian ‘boot’. With an unusual and beautiful landscape, it also has traditions shaped by explorers and invaders from a variety of cultures that reached its coasts.
If Salento is a jewel, the main piece is definitely the city of Lecce. Its walled historic centre is greatly admired for the uniqueness of its Baroque style. It also has a Roman theatre and a Greek amphitheatre, both still in use. Try a hotel in Lecce’s old town and go back in time!
Blessed with the waters from the Ionian and the Adriatic seas, its rocky coves and small sandy inlets contrast with the light blue waters. Popular beach hotels in Puglia’s Salento region are located near the Alimini Lakes and the Portoselvaggio Bay.
Other important coastal areas are Porto Cesareo, Torre dell'Orso, Santa Maria di Leuca and Santa Cesarea Terme. Gallipoli and Otranto deserve a visit not only for their beaches, but also because of their beautiful historic centres, mostly shaped during the Aragonese domination of the area.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 98 reviewsThe territory is huge and very green. The rooms are spacious and clean. There are plenty of sunbeds and space at the beach, and the sea is crystal clear. Several heated pools with slides and a splash park were definitely great fun for the whole family. The buffet was not excessive and more focused on quality over quantity. The staff was friendly, courteous, and professional. The kids' club staff was especially wonderful! Very attentive, friendly, and competent. Always greeting the little ones by name, with a big smile and so much warmth.Guest review byNBItaly

Lecce was a surprise!
Lecce was a surprise! I didn't expect to enjoy the city as much as I did. I've travelled a great deal in northern Italy, but Lecce was a really comfortable, friendly, culturally and historically vibrant city. They call it the Florence of the south, and whilst that's a bit of an exaggeration, it certainly has a wonderful atmosphere and the locals were incredibly helpful, charming and happy to see tourists. Wonderful restaurants, museums, churches and we arrived during a festival which was fantastic. I plan to return to Lecce.Guest review byJamesUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ostuni is well worth a visit.
Ostuni is well worth a visit. Easy to get and parking are ample. Views and surroundings v good. Food was absolutely delicious , ate at Mosca Bianca and highly recommend. Aside from the usual historic places e.g. cathedrals, city government buildings we saw studios/gallery which offered interesting paintings/scuptures by local artists.Guest review byyolamacUnited Kingdom - 8.0
We chose October to avoid the crowds.
We chose October to avoid the crowds. It was very pleasant and quiet not very touristy. It’s easy to get around on foot to many eateries and transport via train and buses to other locations. I did not find the local beach very interesting/ attractive and for that reason I would not return for a longer stay. Not much of interest for younger travellers. No parks within walking distance. Ideal for short stay 2-4 days. No car needed around the town but to access beaches you do need it. Parking is a definite problem.Guest review bySandraIreland - 10.0

I spent 11 nights in Otranto and used it to visit many areas in the southern most part of Puglia. It is a beautiful place with the warm Adriatic Sea to cool you down after the exertions of shopping and sight-seeing. Restaurants are plentiful but if I was to select one that we loved, it was Retro Gusto. Getting around Otranto is relatively stress free and if you enjoy people watching, then you are in your element in Otranto.Guest review byBenIreland - 10.0

Gallipoli is a very nice seaside town with beautiful beaches and is situated in a position that if there is rough weather there are beaches on the other side of twin with calm seas. Also the old town is really worth visiting . Many excellent restaurants in townGuest review byEdgarMalta - 4.0
I wouldn't rush back to Taranto.
I wouldn't rush back to Taranto. The modern town is very built up and feels a bit poor/run-down -- imagine a slightly more upmarket Naples. The old town is very dilapidated once you head away from the castle. Parts are totally derelict with more stray cats that human inhabitants. We chose Taranto as a base to explore Alberobello, Locorotondo and Matera, but would have been better staying somewhere more central.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nice beaches, plenty of fast food vendors, or dine-in restaurants if you prefer. Beaches were very clean, and locals very helpful. Prices were very reasonable too, with local shops providing local produce. For a real treat, try Cosimino Restaurant on Via Cosimo Albano; you can book a table overlooking the sea - its great food, and a fabulous atmosphere. It was not a noisy resort, in fact, we thought it was quiet, however, on weekends there was live music after dark. If you are planning a stay, Porto Cesareo is the perfect place to unwind and capture some Italian sunshine.Guest review byJeffUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A truly beautiful place, so much to see and some great restaurants. The museums, churches, architecture all beautiful. I would say three days would be ideal, an excellent place for a short break. Traffic into the old town is restricted across the middle opf the day, which enhances the appeal.Guest review bySueUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Cisternino itself is a very lovely cittadina and ideally placed to visit all the towns around such as Ostuni, Ceglie M, Alberobello (although this is like Disneyland), Locorotondo, M. Franca, Monopoli and Putignano, or even Bari. It's also not far from Salento which I combined with this trip and did Lecce, Otranto, Oria, Gallipoli, Castro, S. Maria di Leuca. It is also only just over an hour to Matera which should not be missed and a unique town very much worth the time and kms. There are plenty of restaurants in Cisternino and for your morning coffee e brioche don't miss going to Vignola History or visit the panificio Vignola for a delicious freshly made panino and other treats that will put plenty of padding on the hips.Guest review byElisabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is an ancient Italian small town that has experienced a revival. Most of the residents are Italians (unlike other towns in the area which are mostly tourist accommodation). There are many excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance and a very impressive Roman museum. I recommend a walk or cycle in the surrounding countryside (as many residents do). It's also a great place to explore Puglia as it is about an hour to Lecce, Cisternino and Gallipoli.Guest review byMelanyUganda
