FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

Great city and very walkable.
Great city and very walkable. You can walk to all major sights in no more than 20 minutes. The food is tremendous and unlike anywhere else in Italy. Palermo has been one of our favorite stops during our month in Italy. It may be a little dirty for some but I think it gives in character and does not effect how much fun you will have. You can bus to a beautiful beach in just 30 minutes also.Guest review bySeth StillmanUnited States - 10.0

This is a city was a walkable historic center with lots of sites to visit. It is easy to take the train for day trips to Taormina and other towns. I enjoyed a Viator sunset excursion to a lava tube and trek up Mount Etna.Guest review byLauraUnited States - 10.0

Syracuse is a lovely place with lots of fab restaurants, museums and art galleries. I especially enjoyed the museum of Illusions. Great fun and the girls working were wonderful. My negative about the place would be the litter, really needs attention.Guest review byceptaIreland - 10.0
It is a must in Sicily.
It is a must in Sicily. You should also visit the other mountain-top town of Castelmola, possible by bus if you don't have a car. We visited the gorge and Etna. The cost of going high on Etna is exorbitant, 69 euros by bus or cable car, so we just went on long walks.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We absolutely loved Cefalu, we could have stayed longer.
We absolutely loved Cefalu, we could have stayed longer. Our host Deborah was there to greet us, made us feel very comfortable and showed us how everything worked, the apartment was fantastic, very clean, we loved being opposite the beach. On the morning of our checkout it was predicted to rain so Deborah took us to the railway station. We would highly recommend a stay here. Right in the middle of town, a must to see the beautiful Cathedral as well.Guest review byLyndallAustralia - 10.0

Great base for day trips (to Erice/Egadi Islands/even Marsala), but the city itself is worth visiting! A very walkable location, especially from where we stayed [SAT Appartamenti Locazioni turistiche brevi-G&P]. We were told to try Busiate so we did in so many different styles haha. We ate these seasoned fried chick pea patties that looked like fried halloumi or tofu that had we not spoken to our hosts we would not have known what we were eating! I left this too late and can't recall everything... Spectacular views as per for Sicily. We happened to be there for the opening of "Radio Mare" this cute cafe that becomes a hi-fi listening bar in the eveniing... super vibey, defo check it out. Every shop and restaurant we stumbled in was worth visiting. It was a lively city that was a good blend of tourist and locals!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Lots of steep streets and alleyways but didn't get lost!
Lots of steep streets and alleyways but didn't get lost! Best to visit the Valley of the Temples early in the day before it gets too hot. Make sure you wear a hat and have plenty of water. Take the time to visit the town, especially the cathedral and greek churchGuest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beautiful town, full of life at night.
Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Alot of people do not speak english, and everything there...
Alot of people do not speak english, and everything there including street sign are in ilalian. Had an excustion to the godfather on a hop on hop off bus(green) I had ordered from Get Your Guide and went 2 hours early and the direction they gave us was wrong and couldnt find the place for pick up in mountain. Had no wifi on my phone, even when i paid extra to get itWIFI on my phone. Tried to ask people but on one knew where to go. Traffic was terrible where the address was to pick up. So i ended up not making the excurion, and company is not giving me a refund. Also the rest RISTORANTE SABBIE D' ORO charged us $162.00(euro) for a 1 lobster. They stood over us until we order, couldnt speak english and the menu said 18 euros for a one lobster, thought that was a good price. Pressed us with extra stuff we did not want to order, because we could not understand them. Then we go to pay there system was down and couldnt take no visa or MC. Our bill was $350 eros. We had to go to atm machine and they charged us $75 to take money out of machine. BAD EXPERINCE!!!!!! I would suggest not to go there.Guest review byCindyUnited States - 10.0

The best part of our trip to Sicily was staying in Favignana for a couple of nights. I would say that 3 nights would have been perfect. I highly recommend renting your own boat and renting bikes to explore the island as much as possible.Guest review bySheilaUnited Kingdom
