We spent two and a half days (three nights) in Palermo. While the city felt safe and the people were genuinely warm and welcoming, the streets were quite dirty and not well maintained, which took away from the overall experience. That said, the food was absolutely incredible - from street eats to sit-down meals, every bite was full of flavor and authenticity. If you have not been to Catania before, you might be a bit taken aback by the run-down look of the city as there is plenty of graffiti on the walls. However, once you get past this, you'll find that the city has ALOT to offer. Beautiful buildings, fantastic history, buildings and architecture. Wonderful food and food markets, interesting art. Even some of the graffiti looked cool. It doesn't make a great first impression but it definitely grows on you. A tip - if you're on a budget and want to buy some mementos to take home, don't buy at the 'first' place you get to - stroll around the city streets and compare prices. The archeological ruins, catacombs in Siracusa and the Jewish baths in Ortigia are all worth visiting. We spent a couple of days doing the above and the other sights and it felt about the right length of time. Trapani is a good base for exploring the area by car or public transport. Lots to enjoy, from walking along the beach or simply relaxing in one of the many sunbeds available (for a fair price), to boat rents or boat trips to other locations nearby. Without knowing about it, we arrived in the last days of the Cous Cous feast, which was a great surprise.
