- From US$155.81 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,406 reviewsI stayed at Ibis Style Kyoto Shinjo for four days and definitely enjoyed my stay. Fantastic location, just a short walk to the nearest underground station which takes you to the main commercial area, and a bus stop across the street where you can take buses to most of Kyoto's famous temples and shrines. Also a coffee shop right next door and a lot of convenient stores nearby. Clean and cozy room. Comfort bed for those who prefer a firmer mattress. The room has a fridge and an e-locker. I requested a quiet room and they did give me a quiet room where I was able to have nice sleep every night. Really friendly staffs! I was greeted with warm welcomes :) (I see complaints about room size but I think the single room is just enough for 1 person)Guest review byJieChina
- From US$153.03 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,062 reviewsThe room was as advertised, and it have facilities like any other travel hotel around the city. However, it was the fact that there is a vinyl player in each room that really made me book this hotel, and I was so glad I did! I love that the vinyl player was in working condition and you are able to rent it at the counter, 2 at a time. I was able to send my luggage to the hotel beforehand and the receptionist bought it up to my room when I had arrived earlier during my check in. Love the vibe of the small hotel and that it is relatively close to the station as well (at the exit with a lift, which is a plus point). You get a scoop of ice cream and free beer (after 5pm) per day of your stay. Would definitely come back again if I am back in Kyoto!Guest review byJoyceSingapore
- From US$202.06 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 1,835 reviewsWe loved this hotel! It has an excellent location in Gion, making it possible to walk to many places or take the subway, which is right next door. We stayed in the King-Size Bed Room, which is huge and very spacious! There is no daily cleaning, but they leave clean towels at your door every day. All bathroom amenities are provided. The bathtub was essential for relaxing at the end of the day. The staff is very attentive and helpful—I would stay at this hotel again!Guest review byJackelineBrazil

Arashiyama (Bamboo Grove) - Go in the afternoon, its not as crowded Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple - a bit of a challenge to get here but was worth the challenge and was refreshing to get away from the city. Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pravillion) - A must for anyone going to Kyoto but be prepared for crowds at any time. Saryo Tsujiri Tea House - go here but leave time to line up and dine in. We had to do take away and was a little sad about this. Wander around the main streets of Kawaramachi Station and Gion on a Friday or Saturday night and along Kamon River. See people enjoying their evening, buskers and the night life. Unimpressed by Pontoncho Alley both during the day and night. There are better things to check out.Guest review byJessicaAustralia - 10.0

Miyazu which includes Amanohashidate, is one of three natural sites in Japan. The land bridge spans across the sea is fun to view from the observation points (on both sides) and you can actually bike (20 minutes) or walk (50 minutes) one way across. A small town with lots of charm and beauty.Guest review byAmyCanada - 8.0

The staff was awesome! They did everything in their power to ensure I had a pleasant stay. Room is extremely small by US standards! Room could use a microwave, the only one available was on the ground floor and I was on the 7th.Guest review byMarkGermany - 10.0

Kameoka is the starting point of the famous and historical Hozu River rafting ride that takes you to Arashiyama, home of the famous bamboo forest. Enjoy the rafting, enjoy Arashiyama and take the train back to Kameoka. Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station. A perfect day.Guest review byDeepuJapan - 10.0

Gionmachi is a wonderful section of Kyoto and offers much to see and experience. It is easy, maybe 15 to 20 minutes taxi to other areas of Kyoto that are also beautiful, historical and traditional. Overall, this is a place I would come back to because I have much more to see.Guest review byAlanUnited States - 8.0

Kyoto is a lovely place to visit, however it is very crowded. We found the 3 different train services, difficult to understand. We tended to use the JR local train network as it was easier for us to locate the stations near where we wanted to visit. We also found the buses a good way to travel around the city.Guest review byElaineAustralia - 10.0
I especially recommend it to travelers from overseas.
I especially recommend it to travelers from overseas. If you are sightseeing in Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka for a few days, staying at this facility and using Kameoka as your base will be the best way to travel to Kansai. Like taking a day trip from your home. If your schedule is 2 nights and 3 days or 3 nights and 4 days, it is definitely a good deal even if you add transportation expenses. You can't stay in a house in Kyoto or Nara.Guest review byeltopoJapan - 10.0

I loved this hotel!!! The service was outstanding. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The location was perfect - close to town but not in town. We walked everywhere and felt very safe. Close to the train station as well. I will certainly stay here on my next trip to Kyoto.Guest review byCatherineUnited States - 10.0
Nishiki market is fantastic albeit a bit busy.
Nishiki market is fantastic albeit a bit busy. Recommend getting food there during the afternoon for snacks. TeamLABS is incredible - well worth a visit! Visit as many temples as you can. Gion district and philosophers path is a good full days walk but good fun for those that like wandering. Fushimi inari taisha must be visited outside of hours. We went at 3pm thinking it would start to quieten down and it absolutely didn’t. However, if you don’t mind the steps it very quiet at the top! Always book food in advance - we forgot to book a restaurant on the last night and it was a bit of a struggle (we were quite tired though). Take advantage of Kyoto day travel pass - we only noticed this on the last evening having spent most of the time on public transport! Arashiyama Bamboo forest isn’t really worth it - it’s quite short and only worth seeing if you get there very early. The gardens around arashiyama are very nice though.Guest review byNicholas
