The proprietress of the ryokan was super friendly. The breakfasts and dinners were an amazing way to start and end the day. The ryokan is near the vine bridge and once you exit the ryokan, you see the lush greenery of Iya valley. The toilet was very clean, and the room was comfortable.

The clean room, small but comfortable room, reception, provision of amenities and kind support provided by the staff. Oh and the toilet technology was awesome. I was expecting a cold toilet seat but I was surprised with a seat warmer! How cool is that! ;) Food was a buffet and with the money I paid, it was worth it.

This is an extremely comfortable hotel with excellent facilities. The room was very well laid out and a good size, it had everything we needed. Super comfortable hotel! Small room but everything is well laid out and thought through making it convenient and comfortable despite the space. Super clean hotel. The staff there is the friendliest i’ve met in Japan, coin laundry is easy to operate and there is a ladies only laundry room, all monitor-able from the comfort of your room from the tv screen. Coffee available at the lobby, Family Mart just downstairs and many restaurants and the hotel is right on the shopping street where the Sunday Market is too. My mum and i absolutely enjoyed our stay for 5 days here.

Staff are super helpful, also tried very well in English, and had information ready for you in English. The room is small but could still fit quite well with our bags - we only stayed shortly. This place was incredible and such a reasonable price. Beautiful reception area and building in general, friendly staff, and the room was compact but not too small. Great fun having a 12th floor room! Breakfast was extensive Japanese-style, including local speciality sea bream dishes, and some Western-style offerings of yoghurt, compote, eggs, bacon, bread rolls, pastry etc. Location is great- tram stop just outside, only a flat 25 minute walk to the castle ropeway or 20 minute tram to Dogo Onsen. Parking is first come first served but is right next door, and staff validate your ticket for 1000 yen/day (rather than the normal rate of 200 yen/hour). Also self-serve laundry is available for 300 yen/load, plus dryers at 100 yen/30 minutes.

Staff were very friendly. Made extra effort to welcome guests. Half board meals were served and of excellent quality . Dining room was lovely and so were the dedicated staff. Indoor onsen was well located and had a nice reading area ( massage chairs and washing machines were a plus) . The outdoor onsen on the hill made this hotel very special . The coffee machine at the ground floor lounge was nice , and so was the free night tour on the vintage bus. Location was within walking distance to Vine bridge and Biwa waterfall - nice . carpark was also conveniently just outside the main entrance .

Sakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.

Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan. It is quite relaxed and has everything that you may look for in big cities. Shikoku Island is one of the main 4 Islands of Japan. It is good to reach by train, bus and even by airplane. It has an old history and boasts of many traditional handicrafts, regional specialties (such as udon noodles), etc. Always worth a visit - even if it is in the rainy season.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.

We were there for two days, which felt a bit short. The castle is a must-see, if only for the view from the top, of the city with mountains in the background. The Sunday Market is also a must, if you're there on the weekend. The small Science Museum near the castle was fun and very hands on, mainly for kids but also a nice detour for adults. We also found a Back to the Future DeLorean in the Automobile Museum, which was a nice surprise. Katsuo (bonito) is famous in Kochi, it's flame cooked a little on the outside but still raw on the inside and pretty tasty.
