- From US$144.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 271 reviewsThe location and standard of amenity were superb. The hotel was easily accessible by public transport, locally or to / from the airport. The hot tubs on the top floors are a delight! I had a spacious Japanese style room overlooking the beach and out to sea, perfect for my last night in Japan. Women have a choice of yukata and there are plenty of drinks available in hotel lounge, though as the season slows, they maybe need.more attention to maintain supply. The evening buffet was diverse, plentiful, delicious and very welcome since there was nowhere locally for a snack or lunch. I had great help from a member of staff who spoke excellent English and found and organised a very straightforward (but not obvious) solution for getting me to the airport. Other staff either didn't know about it or couldn't explain and my Japanese wasn't nearly good enough to work it out.Guest review byMaryUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 461 reviewsThe staff was so nice and respectful. It was pouring rain when we arrived, and the attendant held an umbrella for us until we got under cover! The meals were delicious, well-balanced, skillfully prepared, and filling. Everything else was just as amazing. The view of the valley, especially when it rained, was like being inside a painting (my new phone background). The steaming hot outdoor onsen was wonderful. The spacious room with a modern bathroom and comfortable futon was perfect. We received a message on booking.com that said they could not accommodate our pescatarian diet, but we went anyways, and when we asked at dinner about it, they were happy to replace the red meat and poultry with river fish. We are so grateful!!!Guest review byDavidJapan

The staff were exceptionally friendly and grateful, always ensuring that my needs were met and making me feel very welcome.Guest review byPornchaiThailand

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.Guest review byGiorgio_EItaly - 10

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.Guest review byFulford-Smith - 10

Anan itself isn't a sightseeing spectacle - a quiet little town with all the normal amenities and such. However, its proximity to multiple important temples on the Shikoku 88 can't be overstated. You're near Temple 18-23, accessible through some combination of bus, train and walking, and that's super convenient. Even if you're not doing the whole pilgrimage, visiting Tairyuji on top of the mountain is super interesting, Yakuoji is beautiful and in one of many small seaside towns, and the whole experience can be a wonderful 3-4 day trip full of unique sights!Guest review byJ-MCanada - 10

Tokushima Prefecture is pretty much off the beaten track for foreign visitors to Japan. If you are hoping to have a real Japanese experience, and avoid the crowds, Tokushima, along with other 'rural' regions of Japan are the perfect places to visit.Guest review byAngusJapan - 10

Great area and plenty to see, a car is a must to get around so you can get to all the places out of the way. It was winter so we were restricted on walks and things to visit. Love to go back in the Spring or the Fall to experience a whole new worldGuest review byKarenAustralia - 10

Such a hlpful place to start our time in Shikoku and the information centre was beyond brilliant - even above the standard of the other cities which have also proven to be so helpful. Great place to start our Shikou 88 pilgrimage and we rather regretted cutting our nights from 5 to 3 so that we could also visit Naoshima.Guest review byJamesAustralia - 8.0
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an...
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an understatement. The vine bridges, the scarecrow village and gorges are pretty much all you'll hear about and for good reason. They're the main attraction and the reason people go. It's all about the nature and a handful of curiosities like the Yokai museum. While not the tourist powerhouse of big cities like Kyoto, it does kind of live off of its "in the know" tourists. A new generation of younger entrepreneurs are trying to revitalize the area and transform it into something more in line with their modern sensibilities. Travel is not easy and requires a lot of planning and preparation. Buses are extremely rare and trains as well. Bad weather can throw a wrench into your plans and mess up everything. Renting a car almost a must in order to visit the more far away spots, but a strong and experienced cyclists could probably do it - maybe. Those hills and mountains aren't always easy! And those trucks get a bit scary. I stayed in Ikeda-cho, one of the bigger areas of Miyoshi city but still a bit of a one horse town. But one thing is has going for it is that you can follow the Yoshino river for an 80km ride into Tokushima city. On a nice day, it's one of the best bike rides you could do.Guest review bySylvainJapan
