It was the perfect location to explore some of the area too - so nice to be near a supermarket and other food places whilst also being in a quiet area down by the river. We got to see a crocodile by the river from the hotel garden!! The pool was great - made for a very relaxing fun place to come back to. The gym had good facilities and it was nice that there were outside weights.
Great breakfast too. The staff brought us mango lassi and beer to our room one evening too. Room was super comfortable - great shower and ac.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room service can be arranged by whatsapp. The menu and drinks have enough variety for 5-6 days.
The beach is very quite and beautiful.

Also, the spa menu gives your some good options for relaxation.

If you want a a break away from the hustle and bustle of every day life this is the place to come.It’s hard to explain how beautiful and tranquil the view is from this fabulous resorts garden looking across the lake to the distant Buddhist temple, perfect for morning yoga.
Madu the resort owner and his wonderful staff Nisal, Mahesh, Sampath and the outstanding Chef Indika looked after us like family. The fruit and tasty cooked food for dinner is all local produce.
The rooms are very modern and spacious with all mod cons required.
For a trip to the National Reserve Safari park.
Madu can arrange everything for a full day or half day safari. If you’re lucky,like we were you may get to see a Leopard or two along with the many other wild animals.

AustraliaWe had such a beautiful stay at My Resort Yala. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and cared for - the staff really want to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This is evident in the facilities - air con, good fans, filtered water in the room, mosquito nets (even though there weren’t many mosquitos), a fridge, a hair dryer, adapters to suit every country’s appliances. My favourite - bicycles. This allowed us to ride around town - a thoroughly enjoyable way to see the place.
We did an afternoon safari and managed to see a sloth bear! Along with so many other animals - many elephants, crocodiles, deer, bird species, mongoose, jackals, goannas (probably forgetting a lot here). The leopard eluded us. My husband and I have been on safari in Africa so we thought maybe we’d be underwhelmed - but it was awesome.
The pool was great for my kids. The temperature was just right. Breakfast was tasty and very generous, and the place has such a peaceful outlook over the rice fields. All of this for such good value. Thank you to all the staff for making this such a lovely stay.

FranceGem of a place. As mentioned in other reviews the rooms are basic BUT comfortable and clean. For the price they are more than perfect.
The setting itself was wonderful - right by the lake, surrounded by wildlife. In the evening, the host took us by tuktuk/scooter for a free tour of the lakes where we saw varans, bats, many birds including two beautiful owls !, and even a (harmless) snake. I booked my Yala safari with the host the day before and we could tell that the driver was more experienced than others. We saw all the wildlife one could see in Yala - leopards, crocodiles, varans, many birds, elephants, mongooses and even a sloth bear !
Perfect place, I'm happy I choose it.

CanadaAruni and the Blue Ocean resort team were amazing from start to finish. We booked the ocean view room and it was so stunning that we decided to stay for a month. During that month, we got help from Aruni with booking lagoon tours, setting up a trip to both the safari parks that were nearby and a lot of other things. Whenever we needed tuktuks she would go out of her way to arrange it for us. One time I had to take a sick stray dog to the vet and she arranged everything with the vet and tuktuk to take me there, she even fed him and now he is there often and it was very sweet and she really did not have to do that.
I cannot recommend Blue Ocean enough to anyone thinking about staying here. The beach is quiet and huge, there is so much wildlife nearby and there are a couple of restaurants nearby. Whenever we wanted to eat at the resort we would ask her in advance for some fish, lobsters and shrimp. On our last day they even had bbq which was very tasty.
Thank you Blue Ocean team. We will definitely be back! And we already miss the two (now three haha) dogs Brownie, Emma and Cheese ball :D

Its proximity to the main attractions is incredibly convenient, making it an excellent base for exploring the local sights. What truly sets Kithala Thissa-Yala Resort apart, however, is the exceptional hospitality of the staff. A special shout out to Ayenaji and Surangi from the front desk, and Iresh, Janith, Gihan, Wathsala, and Pavindu from the restaurant for their outstanding service. Additionally, a heartfelt thanks to the many other sweet and most attentive hotel staff who went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. Their service was unmatched, combining professionalism with a warm, personal touch that made us feel right at home. Initially, we only signed up for the bed and breakfast deal, but the quality of the food was so impressive that we ended up dining at the hotel for both lunch and dinner. Every meal was delicious, showcasing a variety of local and international dishes that catered to all tastes. The game drive is professionally delivered by a great team who are knowledgeable and familiar with the park; with their experience and some luck of course, we saw leopards on both drives we were entitled to with our stay! The dining experience was top, with a great menu for both food and drinks. We even had a beach side evening meal that was spectacular. It also has its own watering hole where different animals come to (we saw buffalo, deer, crocodiles, pelicans and other birds). You can see this right from the hotel pool area! There are also cheeky monkeys running around, but the hotel staff always ensure top security, escorting guests to their chalets after dark. We stayed in the beach chalet and had an amazing view of the ocean. Upon finding out that we’re on our honeymoon, Saman, manager from the poolside restaurant made our stay very special by going above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable stay. The hotel is located in the Yala Nature Reserve on the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel staff. The general manager of Colonel proved to be an amazing person. He gave us a real celebration in honor of our wedding anniversary. It was funny and unforgettable. The hotel itself is not new, but it has everything you need. The rooms are large and colorful. A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The owner of Serenity lake advices us to visit Yala safari, Sithul pawwa magul viharaya and sithul pawwa a super history with beautiful scenery, which we did and we're very grateful for his advice. We returned to the serenity lake to have lunch before heading off. Requested for a village kind of lunch with the local veggies and it was served on a lotus leaf... The most delicious meal it was. It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot. Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities. It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night.
