They organised lunch for us on our arrival which was above and beyond what we expected. The gentleman with the glasses who delivered our induction (apologies I cannot remember his name), was so friendly and welcoming, he (and the rest of the team) went above and beyond to make sure this experience was unforgettable! The food was amazing both nights, and catered to dietary requirements. We ate outside under the stars both nights which was lovely. The tent itself was perfect for our needs, the bed was comfortable and we slept very well both nights. You could hear nature which was wonderful. Solomon is a very knowledgeable and interesting man, he provided great insight into the nature around the camp very locally and also in the safari park. We booked our safari through Big Game Camp and had Solomon as our guide which we could not recommend more, he was quick at pointing out a myriad of animals, whilst also being aware that the park is a safari not a zoo so you are not guaranteed to see anything, despite this we saw many elephants, different species of birds, mongoose etc. We would recommend this to anyone travelling to Sri Lanka!!Guest review byLauraUnited Kingdom

This time the pool was being renovated so was moved to Athgira River camping.. Hotel Athgira is wonderful, I would have no hesitation going back .. but Athgira River Camping .. W O W! I usually stay for one night in Udawalawe to go on safari and visit the transit home .. I genuinely could have stayed at River Camping for a month. The whole team are warm and welcoming. The surroundings are idyllic .. quite literally the perfect place to forget your worries.. on arrival I took a video for my folks at home and a total stranger, on a sunbed around the pool (there are 2 of them!) .. just looked up and said to me "welcome to paradise" .. Extra thanks for the personnel that we could eat breakfast after early morning Safari tour. It was also really nice to get a cup of good morning coffee before Safari (at 5.45 am). Thank you for that! Rooms are clean and bathroom big. Personnel was really friendly and really took care of the visitors. Mosquito net was available. Dinner belonging to room reservation was also good. Safari tour also belonging to room reservation was excellent service. Also our Jeep driver during safari tour showed excellent customer service skill and showed us a lot of such animals which we ever wouldn't have noticed ourselves. The curries were some of the best we've had. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful. They organised our tour guide for Udawalawe as well as the food and drinks. Our driver Rishal was amazing. He spotted everything and stopped with the engine off for as long as 20 mins when we came across some elephants. The Country Side Hotel at Uda Walawe is a very nice place right off the main road. Rooms are spacious and clean, overlooking a ~10m long swimming pool within the trees. It is a very nice please to stay overnight before an early morning safari. Breakfast is excellent, as the warm staff members. Very friendly staff gave a warm welcome. The welcome coffee was the best time of my life. Not only that, I was surprised because the pool was so clean and beautiful. And another best option is that my friends also went on safari with them so we organized the safari with them. The driver is very friendly and has 10 years of experience. This place is one of my favorites in Sri Lanka! It was such a beautiful surprise! Calm area, very nice outdoor setting, the room was very spacious (as was the bathroom!) So let's talk details: - Food: Amazing! Home cooked food, with candlelight and the sounds of nature! - Safari: He was a very good company during my trip!
