- From $123.43 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 203 reviewsWe loved everything about our stay at Lochmara Lodge. We stayed for two nights with our family and It was a little bit of a splurge, but did not disappoint! The location was stunning, the fact that you got there by water taxi made it remote and uncrowded, and there were plenty of things to do (hike, paddleboard, kayak). Also, the food was delicious and the staff was accommodating and helpful.Guest review byLaurenUnited States

Picton is a beautiful place on a sunny day or the warmer months. There's plenty to do if you like the outdoors. It's very kid friendly with a great wee water park and playground. It's easily walkable with some great restaurants and Cafe's. If your a pizza fan then Scoozi is a must.Guest review byCarlNew Zealand - 8.0

Truth is I've lived here all my life. You have done an awesome job in restoring these apartments a solid 10 / 10 in my book. What a transformation from the old days. As for Blenheim it's self it's a nice place but a few too many grapes and pine trees along with rest homes lolGuest review byAndrewsNew Zealand - 10.0

We enjoyed the interesting and free to enter Havelock museum. The public toilets are clean and well looked after and there are a number of local cafes all within walking distance. It is an easy walk to the mail boat departure jetty.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

My stay was cut short due to Covid =lockdown, however the 2 nights i spent here was great, would recommend this hotel to others. Very clean spacious and well located for vineyards. Opposite a café and shop area. 10 minutes drive to Blenheim or 7 to Renwick. Friendly locals and welcoming to solo travellers.Guest review byDeborahNew Zealand - 10.0
Stunning location in a lovely rural setting.
Stunning location in a lovely rural setting. Abundance of wild birds in a beautiful garden setting containg fruit orchards. A very relaxing B & B where the hosts have added so many little extra touches eg chocolates beside the bed, M&Ms, good selection of teas. There is a pub about 2 miles away which serves stunning renowned beef burgers. Jill and Peter were wonderful hosts. We would wholeheartedly recommend the Owls Rest!Guest review byDerekUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Lochmara Bay has so much to see and do and has beautiful scenery. Peaceful and quiet if you don't mind the odd speedboat or jetski. Lochmara Lodge is a fantastic option for people stopping in from tramping on the Queen Charlotte Track or visiting by boat (20 mins from Picton) - the accommodation was excellent as was the food and activities on offer. They even take your bags boat to door and back! Activities include roaming the stunning gardens with unusual forest artwork, enjoying the wildlife in the forest and marine life from the viewing boat, feeding the animals, kayaking, swimming when warm enough, lying in the hammocks!!! Big shout out to the staff who work hard and are helpful and friendly.Guest review byAnonymousNew Zealand - 8.0

The Portage was a lovely place to stay, the views were amazing and the staff extremely helpful. We were dissapointed about only 1 restaurant being open, and therefore not a large selection to choose from. We would recommend asking in advance, if they can make up a sharing platter, as this is not on the menu, and when we asked, they mentioned we should have ordered in advance. The beautiful view from the deck totally lends itself to drinking and grazing on a delicious platter. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boards. We would recommend booking a transfer and taking a picnic to a secluded beach - we had a wonderful time.Guest review byTravellers05New Zealand - 10.0

Ward is a peaceful destination after a trip from Christchurch, on the main highway to Nelson and I only heard a few heavy trucks pass despite being in motel nearest to the highway. Fortunately I had tea food with me as I arrived after the local food seller had closed after 5pm.Guest review byLynetteNew Zealand - 10.0

I loved the remoteness of where we stayed, yet the sense of being safe and looked after by the locals. The views and natural environment are sublime. The only permitted way to get here is currently by boat as the road has been damaged by a storm and is only allowed to be used by residents' and service vehicles. This makes it very safe to walk up the road to tracks into the wonderlands the area has to offer. The walks vary from fairly easy to somewhat taxing. Some of the tracks have a challenging gradient if you are not used to walking, and would be more difficult if they are wet. Having said that, we are 'senior citizens' with average fitness and we managed to summit the Onahau lookout (416 meters / 1368 feet) above sea level) and return in one piece.Guest review byTomNew Zealand
