New ZealandMike and Pam were absolutely brilliant hosts: knowledgeable, attentive (without being intrusive). They gave us the feeling that nothing was too much trouble and were helpful, friendly and wonderful from start to finish.
The hotel is right next to the Ferry Terminal (literally across the road if you’re going to Stewart Island, Rakiura), there’s a little Four Square Supermarket a couple of doors down for all the essentials and some great choices for dinner if you’re around in the evening.
The beds were lovely and comfortable. Linen was immaculate and excellent quality and the hotel has some brilliant original Art Deco features and character, plus a bar and lounge to relax after an days adventuring!

A very pretty little town on Lake Te Anau, with the snow...
A very pretty little town on Lake Te Anau, with the snow covered mountains of Fiorland National Park as the back drop. Plenty of eateries many right on the lake. Supermarkets and specialty shops. Beautiful walks. Hiking trails if you're looking for that. Jaw droppingly beautiful scenery everywhere. A 2 hour drive to Milford Sound or take a bus tour. Tours from Queenstown stop off in Te Anau to collect passengers & drop back on return trip. This was what we did and it was so much easier than travelling all the way from Queenstown. Te Anau is a nice and worthwhile drive from Invercargill. We just loved Te Anau. It was all and more that I'd hoped for!Guest review byLee-AnneAustralia - 10.0

My relative came and took us to Riverton nice drive We went to Matura and Gore long drive very nice country side. The township of Oban is the place to find out most info, access e-bikes and get details of walks, kiwis, trips to places such as Ulva Island. It’s the central township for the island. Tranquil town away from the touristy hubbub of Te Anau but within range to catch the tour to Milford Sound. The Church restaurant served excellent meals at a reasonable price. Am SO glad we decided to stay in Bluff! We met the most wonderful, kind, generous authentic people ever!! We had the most fantastic two days here - was well worth coming and staying in the Foveaux Hotel with owners Mike and Pam was just fabulous - so authentic and gorgeous. Travellers just need to be aware that Niagara Falls is a joke, but it is a lovely place to stay. Possibly, Curio Bay around the corner would be a more spectacular place to stay, but Niagara is only a short driving distance away. Te Anau is a beautiful town, set on the shores of a lake, with close access to Milford and Doubtful Sounds. The main shopping centre offers lots of different restaurants and take away options.
