FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Excellent - What previous guests thought, 145 reviewsSao was such a wonderful hostess!! So kind and helpful. The breakfast served here was fantastic, the room perfect for our needs and the balcony so beautiful!! Lajes was an excellent location for us, we loved the pastry shop and restaurant just up the street. Quiet but neighborly, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else on the island! Highly recommend renting a car and taking advantage of the ocean swimming holes! Sao Roque had the best one. And the bar Cella Bar near the capital has a gorgeous view!Guest review byJessicaUnited States
- From $267.06 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 420 reviewsOh, I am in love with this place: the room, surrounding area, service, food - all were perfect. We stayed in the room with the pool. It was cold to swim, obviously, but nice to look at. The view on the ocean and mountains is breathtaking. Sunrise paints your room in different colors, tiny birds play and sing on the grass in front of the house every morning. Perfect. And they prepared special tea ritual every evening for us.Guest review byKristinaPortugal

This is the most beautiful place that we have ever seen.
This is the most beautiful place that we have ever seen. It has so many natural beauty and places to explore. I would strongly suggest that if you want to explore on your own and love driving and walking/hiking, please book rental car with airport from before and visit mid September to mid-October to avoid many tourists and still have great weather. Ensure you stay around Hotel Sao Miguel Park since it is very accessible and you can walk everywhere in 8 to 10 minutes to enjoy great city vibes and food. Please research well on google to find great places to explore on your own. One good website is Azores Trails. Lastly, do not rush to do multiple islands together. Take at least 7 days to enjoy Sao Miguel since there is a lot to do in every corner.Guest review byDarshanCanada - 10
Beautiful.
Beautiful. There are many fascinating old buildings, cozy cafes, great beaches, and steep hills to climb. Great nature reserve at Monte Brasil. The people are very friendly. Quite a few facilities in this small little town. Very relaxing.Guest review byJanPortugal - 10

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants and pedarias and shops in and around the Main Street Our favorite place to eat was a fab resteraunt overlooking the ocean Praia do a Almoxarife. Lovely harbor with interesting paintings from passing sailors. Porto Pim Beach close by. Probably best to get a hire car to see all the lovely spots around the island (quite expensive) although the local buses are pretty good too. Plenty of walking/hiking trails especially the walk around the rim of Caldeira e Capelinhos. Lots of amazing view points and botanical gardensGuest review byJOHNUnited Kingdom - 10
Spectacular park and hot springs.
Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.Guest review byMikePortugal - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10

I went there to scuba dive and Madelena is a perfect location between two excellent Dive Shops: CWAzores and Twin Peaks. I recommend O Cinco for food. Madalena is a perfect location to stage a vacation to have access to all the other towns, museums and activities.Guest review byTerryUnited States - 10

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 10

Casas do termo are about 2 km from Lagoa, and we didn't explore this small town well enough. The big Continente supermarket was easy to find (on the road from the motorway). The roads on São Miguel are on the whole very good and the traffic is light. There is a lot of agricultural traffic, however. Using this location as a base, we could easily explore the whole island by car and there are many things worth experiencing (views, villages, Ponta Delgada itself). It's an amazingly lush, green island. We would recommend it!Guest review byGeraldNetherlands - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal
