Lisbon blends timeless charm with a lively modern spirit.
Lisbon blends timeless charm with a lively modern spirit. Its classic trams, striking architecture, vibrant culture, and mouthwatering cuisine make it truly captivating. I loved exploring Praça do Comércio, Rossio Square, and a cozy restaurant tucked inside Tapada das Necessidades Park beneath majestic old trees. The Time Out restaurants were fantastic for socializing, while delightful gems like Chez Bea Crêperie were unforgettable finds. However, Lisbon isn’t ideal for those with mobility limitations because of its steep hills and numerous steps. I admired how motorists gave way to pedestrians. A day trip to Sintra and Cascais is easy via public transport or guided tours. Caution: short-term stays have become pricier, now matching rates across major European cities. Overall, I think Lisbon remains one of Europe’s most enchanting and rewarding destinations to explore.Guest review bysheilagomezBermuda - 10.0

Two days was sufficient time for me to do the exploring that I had planned to do. Sintra gets very busy during the day but it has compensations, such as great restaurants, and a number of sights to be seen. I recommend visiting. Get up early to avoid the crowds.Guest review byPullynAustralia - 10.0
Excellent walking town.
Excellent walking town. Bountiful eating and shopping opportunities. Very friendly locals who treated you like family - if you showed similar respect to them. Gorgeous water and architecture abound!Guest review byDennis - 8.0
Convenient location for overnight stopover.
Convenient location for overnight stopover. We wanted to try out a fish restaurant as we picked Setubal for this reason, being a fishing port, but got hopelessly lost in the evening. The rooms are now looking tired and in need of an update.Guest review byAnwarUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is a beautiful town with miles of beaches. Too bad it doesn't have a clothing optional area. That would have been divine. The restaurants are great. Wish they were opened till 11pm especially on the weekends.Guest review byWINSTONUnited States - 10.0
Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want...
Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want a relaxing break away. There are plenty of hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants but there isn’t a specific area or ‘strip’ of these, they are just dotted around. The casino and its garden are a dominant and attractive focal point so there are a few places near to it. There’s Portuguese food, of course, but also Italian, Chinese, Indian and Japanese. You can get fish and seafood dishes of any sort but there’s also lots of steak on offer. Prices are very reasonable. Some people travel in and out of the town specifically and solely to use the beach by day or the casino by night, some to attend events at the glamorous looking fort on the beach, so the town isn’t dead but it can feel quiet at certain times. It’s definitely a chilled out place to stay in. There are only a few local shops for groceries and not really any souvenir shops. In my opinion, it has more of a local, residential vibe and isn’t touristy. For a change of scene, by train Cascais is just a 5 minute ride away or Lisbon is about 40 minutes away. It’s great to visit either and then escape the crowds by returning to Estoril! There is currently a replacement bus service in operation after 9pm (not sure how easy that is to use) but at other times the trains are very frequent and inexpensive.Guest review byPaulaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Oeiras is a suburb of Lisbon, so not overwhelmed by tourists. We found some great places to eat that were appreciative of our custom. There was a fantastic vegan restaurant just outside the town centre (Alma Veg). The main problem for us was the ddual carriageway that passes right by the beaches.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A nice town, with a moderate-sized beach, a good range of restaurants in all classifications, some historical stuff, and a modern but still cosy atmosphere. Great for a week of leisure, beach, trips into the beautiful natural environment, and all. It is relatively close to Lisbon, but can be a difficult to reach by public transport. (Many routes are possible, depending on your day, time , and preferences.) Just go through it, spend 2 hours on the transfer, enjoy the view, the towns, and locals. We visited (a.o.) 2 great places for dinner: Black Coffee Sical (not just coffee, but also lovely meals and all) BATEL (a bit pricy, but OMG, what a tasty dishes they served us) Enjoy the food and atmosphere of these two contrasting places ! And one surprising hub on the beach promenade: the Gelatomania, an outlet for ice-creams, pancakes, waffles, coffees, and many more indulgences. Always busy, fast staff, and just delicious. Popular among young and old crowd, locals, tourists, families, caring couples, solo travellers, casual friends and thirsty dogs. Just pop by, it will quickly become your daily routine...Guest review byPeterNetherlands - 10.0

Almada is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon with all the tourist activity. Easy 10 minute ferry ride to Lisbon. $3.20 euro return trip. Almada is less expensive with all the food options you could possibly want, all the while you have a chance to enjoy the fabulous people of Portugal. If you like walking, it's a great area.Guest review byDeanCanada - 10.0

Montijo is a hidden gem that beautifully blends traditional charm with modern amenities. Nestled close to Lisbon yet far enough to offer a serene escape, this town captivates with its rich history, friendly locals, and stunning natural landscapes. The quaint streets, vibrant markets, and delicious local cuisine provide an authentic taste of Portuguese culture. Its proximity to the Tagus River offers picturesque views and opportunities for leisurely walks or boat rides. Montijo is also a gateway to beautiful farm stays, where you can experience the peaceful countryside and savor fresh, local produce. The town's relaxed pace and welcoming vibe make it perfect for unwinding, while its convenient location allows easy exploration of nearby attractions. Whether you’re seeking tranquility, cultural immersion, or a base for day trips, Montijo delivers an unforgettable experience. A true Portuguese treasure that leaves you wanting to return!Guest review byManishPortugal
