Ortahisar is a beautiful little town. It’s quite quiet but a short taxi ride into slightly busier Goreme. I’m glad we stayed in Ortahisar though as it was much more relaxing and quaint. Hisarönü Restaurant was our favourite place to eat - fantastic food, lovely Cappadocian wine and shisha. We even got given a free slice of cake as it was the owners birthday. It is a lovely small town next to Goreme (famous for the hot air balloon rides and pointed rock structures) so its a short ride away with none of the hustle and bustle of a touristy town. It has many local restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, to eat at without breaking the bank. There is a promenade with on the river with jungle gyms and play areas for little kids. Göreme is truly a one-of-a-kind destination. The landscapes are breathtaking—fairy chimneys, cave houses, and stunning sunrise views with hot air balloons make it feel like you're in another world. The town has a unique charm and is a great base for exploring Cappadocia, with lots of tour options, hikes, and viewpoints nearby. That said, it’s good to be aware of a few things. Tourist scams are common, especially with overpriced tours or pushy vendors. It's worth doing a bit of research or booking through reputable sources. Also, while the food is generally good, some restaurants are overpriced for what you get—clearly aimed at tourists.
