The game lodge is extremely family friendly and amazing for kids. They thought of everything from the colouring pen to the couch next to the restaurant with the TV to allow the parents to have a peaceful dinner. The pool is heated and wonderful. The staff is great, you have a dedicated waiter fine you and a dedicated ranger, it feels like a butler service. The most amazing part of course is the game reserve, it's quite big, and during our two night stay and 4 safaris we got to see all the animals. Cherry on the cake was to encounter the cheetah who just hunted his meal for the night. The elephants for some particular reason like a specific space in the reserve, which happens to be not far from the restaurant, so you end up having breakfast every morning with the view in the 2 magnificent elephants. Our ranger, Janel, was amazing, extremely knowledgeable, super friendly and tried her best to make every safari unforgettable. Overall, 1 night is not enough, 2 nights is the minimum to enjoy the stay properly, otherwise if you want a more relaxed time you can go up to 3 nights and do a road trip on the garden route and visit the wonderful beaches around. Chris the owner, was in Heidelberg by chance, met us and drove ahed of us to the villa. He gave us a great tour around the large property, which was a good idea, because the weather turned for the worse and we wouldn't have seen these beautiful vistas on the day of departure. Chris told us that he and his neighbour take good care of these large parcels of land, which mostly remain off bounds to tourists, are kept in their natural state and all non-indigenous trees are being removed. Our grandkids loved the villa's music-room and the biljart table. We all enjoyed being in this quiet, peaceful property that was filled with the owner's pieces of art, gathered from all or the world. Knysna is a beautiful town and a highlight in the Garden Route! A must to visit is the waterfront area. We had a fantastic trip on a yacht to the Heads at sunset with Springtide! The restaurants at the Waterfront are the best in town. We loved 34 Degrees South and Drydock Company. A visit to the Heads is a highlight. Loved the view and i enjoyed climbing the stairs to our room. The room was cozy, bed very comfortable - had all we needed. All shops, restaurants and beach in walking distance, loved our beach strolls. The artist was busy with the most beautiful paintings within the subway leading to the beach. The breakfast at the place was delicious so we enjoyed dinner at The Blue Olive the Friday night and Ilali the Saturday night. Beautiful and tranquil surroundings. Tsitsikamma Lodge in the forest, stunning accommodation. Storms River Village a must to visit, lovely restaurants and starting point for outdoor activities . Enjoyed the Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour, the guides were so friendly, had loads of fun! Marilyn's 60's Diner - lovey restaurant definitely worth a visit. Albertinia is a small country town without the big fast food...
Albertinia is a small country town without the big fast food take aways . Very rural . You can buy the basics at one of the cafes or Pizza place . There is not much as far as shops go so it is a stopover to break a long journey or a week or two of total peace and quite without too many modern day interruptions. There is a braai area and all you could want to have to have an enjoyable stop and a good night's sleep and no rush to get you out in the morning .. I simply bought rolls and cold meat and yogurt at Piet se kafee as I did not want to cook . Coffee is provided although if to a heavy coffee drinker you may want to buy a bit extra as most guest houses only give you enough for two or three cups of coffee . I had a nice chat with the owner who told me about the abundance of underground water and about the area in general...This is not a property where you can come in and drink and party and be a nuisance to others . . Great place for a week end especially in summer. Adequate shops, coffee shops etc. Nice fish n chips, restaurants and lots of lovely places nearby like Wilderness Knysna etc. Lovely drives up the hills. Views beautiful, riding bikes fine.
