Ryokans in Myoko

Great location to Myoko Suginohara ski field. Very friendly and gracious staff. Amazing food, ate Kings and Queens. Catered well for our large group. Warm and comfortable.

The room was very big and super clean. The view from the room was 😍 The food was absolutely amazing and we enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant. They served so many beautiful dishes. It exceed our expectations. Everything was more than delicious. We enjoyed the onsen on site. The shared bathroom had even more things that you need. They thought about every detail. The staff was super friendly and helped us with transport information. We will be back for sure!

Stayed in the hybrid Western/Japanese style room which is spacious and comfortable. décor is fairly basic but the hotel is clean and tidy. Our only criticism is the size of the bathroom. It is on the small size, even by Japanese standards. Decent sized drying room. Ski/snowboard hire shop on site. Location is perfect, right opposite the Kanko gondola and a 5 minute walk in to the Akahura village. We have stayed here before and will happily stay again.

This is the best hotel we stayed at during our trip. The hospitality was warm and attentive, the room was clean, and the onsen was amazing!

Loved the staff, they were amazing and helpful in every way possible. The onsen was amazing there was an indoor onsen and outdoor, both were hot and beautiful. We spend a week here, this hotel is a little bit off the beaten track, but 100% worth the extra little drive.

We stayed 5 days 4 nights.The host is kind, honest, accomodating and helpful japanese couple. They always go extra mile to help on whatever they can. They speak minimal english but with translator apps. So no problem for communication. It is prefect authentic japanese living. We sleep on futon and tatami floor. The room equiped with TV and heater with daily refill of green teas. There is hot water in big water pot/ tumbler(5 liters) provided. All rooms on second floor with male & female toilet with bidet and heated toilet seat. Another common basin for facial and teeth wash with hot water. There is clean in house onsen for male and female. The hot spring water temperature is prefect and its nice after ski. Must try dinner cooked by host husband. The food is awesome with reasonable price. U get beyond what u pay for. Its local authentic japanese food but u need to inform the host one day in advance. We always look forward for the dinner everyday and they always surprise with great food and presentation. Its the best japanese food i ever tried in japan. I already feel hungry when i think about it. Its healthy and balance. But u cant request any specific food but let the host surprise you with his food expertise. He will ask u if u allergic to any food on the first day. It is just 5 min walk to suginohara romance chair lift. Easy walk. There is many small local conveneince store within this small community but not shown in google map for snacks, beer,soft drinks or instant noodle. We definitely will come back again for wonderful hospitality, foods and great ski slope in sugi.

Located right in the middle of Akakura Onsen the Star hotel is easy to access and then close to a number of restaurants, shops and bars. The free shuttle bus cruises past so it’s easy to jump in and get to Kanko. Onsen ski field is a 5 min walk along the street. Bar across the road and ski rental. Convenience store next door - in evenings. The family that runs Star Hotel is super kind and friendly. They’ll go out of their way to help. Breakfast was great, enough food. The Hotel is a bit tired but I think that’s par for the course around the area. Yes it’s a bit pricy but it’s the middle of peak winter season and you’re in snow paradise so …! The bathroom communal onsen is small - but easy to get to yourself. The water is soooo hot - but great for a soak. Smells great - authentic onsen water. The big family room is basic, but a traditional Japanese type stay - sleeping on futons on tatami. Plenty of extra blankets provided. Gas heaters in room are effective but you wouldn’t leave them on at night so it does cool down. Kotatsu is amazing to slip under, keep warm and rehydrate !! Discount lift tickets from reception are good but cash only. You can pay by credit card at the ski field ticket offices.

Return to this same resort at Myoko after 2 years. What I like : 1. Near to several ski resorts 2. Provides transport to train station, to ski resorts, to dinner place 3. Onsen 4. Big Japanese room for 2 person (can fit 4) 5. Simple breakfast (new owners setting up). Kind of miss the Japanese type breakfast two year ago. 6. Can do dinner at resort 7. Nice drying and locker room for snow gears. 8. Quiet place for good night rest. 9. Discount lift tickets to Alpen Blick Ski resort that is few minutes away. New owners should run in the resort well this season and improve on the next season.
