Really nice japanese style room, very comfortable and provided everything needed. Shared onsen was beautiful. Japanese breakfast was very tasty.

We had a wonderful stay at Shiroyamakan. The 4th-5th generation of this family to run the inn are lovely and you can tell that they have a lot of pride and passion for their work and culture. The food was fantastic with mainly homemade and local resources. We especially appreciated the tour by car from the father on the first day to get some pointers for our own exploration. He also helps with taking photos at the observation deck and is all in all a fun and lovely man. Another plus is that in the morning you get a head start to see Shirakawago before most of the tourist busses arrive. Highly recommend staying here on your visit to Shirakawago, it has been our top experience in Japan so far.

At Akaokan, guests can relax in the spacious public hot-spring baths and visit the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated a 20-minute drive away.

Dinner & breakfast were included with our Japanese-style room and both were excellent. The couple who run the ryokan were friendly & helpful. Great location to be able to access the Gassho villages of Ainokura and Suganuma without a car - the local bus stop is directly outside the ryokan. It is also opposite the oldest Gassho house (300 years); it is open to the public and you can climb up to the 5th floor.

Boasting an open-air bath, garden and views of garden, Ichirino Kogen Hotel Roan is situated in Hakusan, 43 km from Kenrokuen Garden.

Very friendly staff with many facilities for entertainment and great hot spring. Felt very homely and very close to the skiing fields and rental area.

Location, it is right by the bus station. It overlooks the river if staying on the river side, or you have a view of the mountain on the other side. Traditional Japanese style room and food were magnificent, and were able to cater for lactose intolerance people/people with allergies. The bathhouse was splendid having a sauna and a lot of space within. Nice lounge area, as well as they allowed luggage to be kept before check in/after check out.
