Hakone
Opened in 1878, The Fujiya Hotel features Meiji Era architecture set in Hakone’s natural beauty. Just 500 metres from Miyanoshita Station, it offers indoor and outdoor pools, a spa and a restaurant in a converted Imperial Villa called Kikka-so Inn. Rooms feature bathtubs with natural hot-spring water. The hotel itself is absolutely exceptional, and probably the most impressive luxury hotel I've ever stayed. If you enjoy the history exploration and the Japanese-western style, Fujiya definitely will be a great fit. The hotel finished its renovation 2 years ago and everything is in good condition. You can experience its glory and rich history since the majority of areas are free to explore for staying guests. (Do not miss its museum, library and garden. The swimming pool is a bit small, and personally I quite enjoyed its style.) In fact, my friends and I spent so much time exploring the hotel itself, the time spent in Fujiya hotel eventually became the highlight of our Hakone trip.

This 5-star hotel offers room service and luggage storage space. The property is non-smoking and is located 48 km from Fuji-Q Highland. Second time staying at this property and whilst I thought my first stay was fantastic my experience was further enhanced by the English competency of the staff present this time around which meant for no misunderstandings. The facilities are great for onsen with indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as cypress hot tub in the bedroom. Above all the food is Michelin worthy multi course for dinner and breakfast with various wine and non alcoholic pairings. Its modern interpretation of Japanese traditional cuisine from the region, locally sourced really imaginative. Really fantastic stay again and would visit when next on business in Tokyo.

Im incredibly happy with my stay at this villa, it was truly the highlight of my vacation. I traveled with my best friend and had arranged a surprise birthday dinner through the resort. The staff went above and beyond to keep everything a surprise, providing a delicious tart WITH candles (a rare and special touch in hotels! A birthday cake just isnt the same without candles IMHO).
The villa far exceeded my expectations: very clean, romantic, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. The private onsen was an unforgettable experience, especially at night, soaking under the stars. The bedding was immaculate and gave me the most restful sleep, and my favorite feature was the large glass window above the bed showing the night stars and the rustling trees in the morning. Waking up to the sounds of nature and walking through the serene surroundings each morning was the perfect escape.
Breakfast deserves a special mention, make sure to choose the breakfast option! Ive visited Japan many times, but this was the best breakfast Ive ever had from any hotel, in Japan or abroad. Both the traditional Japanese and international buffet options were excellent, though I especially loved the private Japanese breakfast experience. Dinner at the retreats Japanese restaurant was fantastic with generous portions.
We made the mistake of dining outside the second night and quickly realized the food at the resort was far superior; we returned for dinner on our third night and werent disappointed. Honestly, the food here is the best I had in Hakone. Seriously; save yourself the headache and dont book restaurants outside the resort...they wont measure up.
What truly sets this resort apart is the staff. Every person we interacted with was kind, thoughtful, and incredibly professional. I miss Hakone, but I think I miss the staff even more.

The traditional Japanese room was very spacious with two futon beds. It was great to be able to open the window and breathe in the fresh mountain air. The highlight of the stay was breakfast and dinner, a kaiseki menu. It was simply delicious. We loved the outdoor pool with real thermal water. We would also like to mention the traditional massage we received from two local ladies in our room. It was just wonderful and we can highly recommend it.
The spacious room , the stile of the hotel, breakfast was very good , the onsen was nice too. Next to Gora station so very easy to get to. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you so much
The location is amazing. Surrounded by nature. We stayed in the room with the private onsen which looked bigger on the photo but still the size was perfect for two people to sit and relax. The food was good and also had the option of a western breakfast if having fish for breakfast is not your cup of tea. The villa is spacious and quiet. There is a bus connecting the hotel to the open air museum within just 10mins. Also a taxi to the Odawara station costed approximately 7.500 yen
After a busy few days in Tokyo this place was perfect to relax. Onsen was great and breakfast/ dinner was delicious. Staff and service was 10/10 and Room was spacious
A true ryokan experience with the very spacious tatami rooms, relaxing onsen and the traditional japanese dinner and breakfast. Great base for hiking trips.
Location is great, easy access (5-10 min walk) to the Hakone Yumoto train station and main shopping street. Spacious room, we had a sauna in room. The breakfast and dinner is so delicious and well presented.
The private onsen were extremely beautiful, the traditional japanese rooms with tatami mats were spacious and a great experience to stay at. We had a booked the plan with breakfast and dinner and the meals were absolutely exceptional abundant. The staff was also really friendly. All in all we had the most relaxing time and really fell in love with this place.
Staff --> Excellent and very helpful. One of the ladies at the checkout (apologies forgot her name), she was really good and spoke good English. Breakfast --> We took breakfast included in the package, and that was the highlight, the vegetable juice (best ever), corn soup, the hot spring eggs, the sausages and so on all were so tasty. Onsen --> Felt refreshed, rejuvenated, and relaxed. I highly recommend it. Others --> Shuttle bus use it if required. We also tried the massage, and it was the best, highly recommend.
The advantage of being placed away from the elevator is less pinging and people noise is minimal. Spacious room. Cafe-prepped breakfast from an A,B, or C menu was good. Liked how conveniently situated to many restaurants, port sites and JR & Metro stations it is. There was a cool room of washing machines and driers - maybe 8/10, kind-of kitchenette and a relax corner with comics and a couple of chairs with massage pads attached. Never seen this set-up before.
A really nice hotel in Hakone situated very close to the train station. There is a bus stop for all Hakone wonders right in front of the hotel. The rooms are big and comfortable. Staff speaks decent English. The breakfast is OK. We were most impressed by the onsen - really nice and relaxing! We also had a great massage in the spa center - the masseur deserves a special commendation! She was a real professional and performed her duties with smile and enthusiasm.
