Nestled in a gorgeous, ancient temple complex, the grounds are extremely fun to hike/explore during the day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of the place through thoughtful signage and the wonderful staff. The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. I will never forget this place!

The area is popular for skiing and snorkelling, and bike hire is available at this 3-star ryokan. After a day of cycling, hiking or walking tours, guests can relax in the garden or in the shared lounge area. Beautiful setting, so clean, comfortable and spacious, staff were so friendly and helpful, we had the best time!

Having been to Izumo before and knowing it would not disappoint, I decided to take my family for another vacation in January. We stayed at Nipponia Izumo - Hirata Cotton Road for three nights. It is a former traditional sake brewery house converted into a kominka style hotel. Situated on a quiet historical sake and soy sauce business street, the hotel not only provided a unique home sweet home service but also amazing fine dining experience. Their in-house chef made each meal using local products to create feasts that delighted the senses. I highly recommend this hidden gem of an accommodation if you do visit Izumo.

Offering a garden and garden view, Ryokan Koyokan is situated in Yasugi, 27 km from Mizuki Shigeru Road and 28 km from Lake Shinji. Boasting luggage storage space, this property also provides guests with a picnic area. Rooms come with a balcony with mountain views and free WiFi. This is a gem in the mountains not to be missed. There was tea and a snack waiting for us every afternoon in our room. We could see the beautifully carved temple and gardens from our room window. The meals were delicious! Many little dishes to make your mouth water served in our private dining room by the hosts who were exceedingly polite and friendly and explained what everything was. The baths could be taken privately with a partner. The bath was very clean as were the accommodations. A short hike to the top of the mountain gave beautiful views of the ocean and the Daisen volcanic mountain. This also went by the beautiful temple, which offers meditation sessions. There were two small stores nearby selling delicious sweets nearby. We cannot say enough good things about kouyoukan ryokan and it's hosts! A wonderful place to slow down and relax.

The Centurion Hotel & Spa Classic Izumo is situated in Izumo, 6.1 km from Hamayama Park and 6.1 km from Masakigaoka Park. Featuring a restaurant, this 3-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom. Former Taisha Station is 7.7 km away and Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo is 9 km from the hotel. The rooms were spacious for myself and my adult son and young daughter. I loved that they provided pajamas - the staff were super friendly (although one of the staff members seemed to be irritated with me when I was trying to speak to him, but he later did apologize - the language barrier was perhaps frustrating for me to relay to him my proper concern and this must have frustrated him as he took my questioning as impatience on my part - he told me to "Just Wait!" in a very annoyed tone with me - I'm okay though as I realize I am not used to their ways and perhaps it is considered very rude to try to speak up when I think they are not hearing me properly. In any case, overall, the other staff members were perfect and extremely helpful to me. I would definitely stay here again!

Extra amenities such as popsicles, yogurt and ramen and free washing machine made our trip easy and convenient. The rooms were spacious and also included pajamas and various toiletries. The staff were friendly and helpful. Easy to store luggage before or after checkout!
