Somewhat secluded beach area about 15 minutes away from Samara. Great for couples or small families wanting to get away from it all. Playa Carrillo is a beautiful calm beach. There aren't many shops and limited choices for restaurants in the immediate area, but that's part of the charm of the town.

The beach is quiet and beautiful.
The beach is quiet and beautiful. There are no restaurants, but you can grill, if you have the patience. In the town, there are few restaurants, with delicious food (I highly recommend Hula Jungla). If you need to use the bus, you can take it every hour.

Perfect if you want to get away from the touristic beaches...
Perfect if you want to get away from the touristic beaches like Samara that are dedicated to American tourists.
Beware of the crocodiles though, we were told a family lives in the river next to the beach and sometimes, when the weather is stormy, you can see them swimming in the ocean :-D
We had a fantastic time. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. We slept in the "Deluxe Family Suite" that is situated in a separate building with a private pool. It was very quiet and had a plenty of space, with a good wifi and a nice hot shower. Playa puerto Carrillo is just 5 mins walk away, and it is beautiful (and better than Samara beach). There's also an internal restaurant serving Argentinian steaks; we had dinner twice and everything was delicious. Highly recommended.
Of the six places we stayed this trip the best value for the money. Steve and Eilene are great hosts with tips on places to see ,eat and just next door if you need anything. Very large suite with good air-conditioning, large pool with nice deck, washing machine and hang clothes to dry which doesn't take long. Need a car for this property, one of the if not best beach in Costa Rica at Carrillo would be good for kids, huge and never crowded, wouldn't hesitate to stay at this property again
We can just say thank you to Dennis and Karina for their hospitality. We enjoyed our stay and couldn’t have chosen a better place.
Very good breakfast. Clean and comfortable rooms. Nice, small pool. Owners did assist with every question or need you have. Perfect for us as a family. We, as a family also enjoyed to be in Carrillio and not in Samara. The beach in Carrillio around 3 km long but very few people. Perfect to relax under the long strip with Palm trees.
Location was perfect, very close to the beach and plenty of restaurants and grocery stores around to pick up whatever is needed. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. The pool was stunning and you could see so many animals just from hanging around, including the cutest little black cat & puppy. Staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Room was very neat and was the perfect spot to relax and hide from the sun when we needed to.
Hotel Casa Buenavista is an exquisite place to connect with nature, relax in tranquility, rest in the most comfortable room with a tropical shower, and meet very special people who are the owners, Kai and Milly. Their hospitality is beyond anything I have ever experienced before when I have traveled. They really care about your stay and making sure that everything is exceptional for you.
Everything was perfect, the camper is super clean and very nice with a splendid patio and garden in which you can relax and have a barbecue. Kris was super friendly and helpful. She organized surfing lesson for my daughter and an amazing horse ride in the forest! The camper is close to a fantastic beach. For me and my family has been a tremendous experience!
The owner was very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a diverse clientele with about equal numbers of North Americans, Europeans and Costa Ricans. That made for a great atmosphere. Extremely restful spot and friendly staff. Though not huge, the pool is larger than many found in more expensive hotels in the area and it is in a great spot.
It is a relaxing place with nice people and a beautiful large pool. The food was fine and there was a pool table you could use. The most beautiful beach in Costa Rica is within walking distance of the hotel and as a bonus, next to the beach, If you are lucky you get to see a super large crocodile on the way.
Breakfast was great! Arnaud is a great person with a huge heart that made our stay awesome. This was our second visit. The hotel's wifi and AC were improved since our last visit and it's just great. Highly recommended for budget traveling with family and/or friends!
The chill environment and the owner was very dedicated to our commodity. He gave us great recommendations to our trip. He let us return to have a shower after going to the beache even though we had already checked out.
The owners/managers were just lovely, lovely people. The view was out of this world. the pool was so much fun. We could walk to the beach which was great.
very clean, small, quiet, tranquil, walking distance to restaurant and beach. Very clean, well-maintained. Nice pool, although small for swimming laps.
