This was a quaint stay in Golfito. The bed was comfy and it was nice to have the room to myself. The porch was really cool and comfy. Right by the river, too. You could walk up the river and explore but I didn't stay long enough to do so. The owners were very kind and hospitable.

Beautiful location and setting. Rooms were spacious and hot showers! The garden area was teeming with life. Caman, Agouti, Coati, Cayman (!), so many beautiful birds and huge variety of frogs. Pool was lovely. Kevin the guide was fantastic, really enjoyed the night hike. Chef was excellent, food was delicious. All the staff were super friendly and helpful.
My friend and I went duty free shopping. We had such fun.
My friend and I went duty free shopping. We had such fun. Was disappointed the hotel no longer has a bar or restaurant. We ate at Mar y Luna. Delicious. On the water. BEST margarita I've had in Costa Rica; I've lived here five years.

We visited Golfito due to its convenience to nearby wildlife viewing (particularly birding) opportunities. A car is a must for this, so if you are not renting a vehicle, this option is not recommended. The property also provides good opportunities for fishing charters. The bay has a big tidal shift and there are no beaches close by, so this is not a good location if that is what you seek.

Golfito is a very pretty area on the shores of the Golfito...
Golfito is a very pretty area on the shores of the Golfito Bay with a variety of activities and restaurants and bars, and overall a very good range of facilities. A great base to explore the surrounding Parks and Bays and the Gulf with a ferry across to Puerto Jimenez. Good for boating, swimming, kayaking, fishing, water skiing, sailing and chilling!!
The entire hotel is amazing. From the art on the walls to the comfy poolside chairs, it was so well-equipped and we felt totally relaxed. The staff is amazing! We were greeted with smiles, humour, and friendliness each time we encountered anyone working there. Joshua in the restaurant was especially fun! We booked the suite and the extra room, HUGE TV, and balcony were a major plus. We felt like we could spread out and relax. Super location as well.
We have been traveling for 6 weeks and this was our favorite room. We tend towards inexpensive places to stay with decent ratungs. The marina doesn't look like much as you head towards Golfito. Upon entering, however, we found a lot of comfort and convenience.
The staff is kind and personal, the room is spotless and large. The best shower so far on our trip. The bathroom and shower are way larger than necessary, and very well thought out.
La Purruja Lodge is a real bargain. My room was light and spacious and the property is really beautiful, with tonnes of animals. Walter and Rosy are fantastic hosts who have been in Golfito for decades. I also found Golfito itself to be surprisingly charming. There is a bay, surrounded by jungle clad hillsides and lots of old wooden buildings from the American banana company - it feels like the setting of a novel.
It was unusual and great fun to stay overlooking the Golfito marina - a great spot for the sunset and spotting sea birds. The restaurant was overlooking the water and served good local food. The night we were there was lively, with lots of Ticans enjoying supper so a great atmosphere ... fruit cocktails excellent too! The rooms are huge with a lovely big bed and bathroom, plus fridge and coffee facilities.
This is in my opinon the least known and under rated property in Costa Rica. A perfect, small, beautiful hotel especially for the budget concious traveller. The setting, ambiance, owners and staff are more than outstanding. It's not fancy, but very clean, well maintained and entertaing with wildlife and domestic animals. The best value for money spent I have ever experienced.
I love how this place is close to the bank and a convenient location with sweet owners and a delightful neighborhThe Golfito Marina is also within walking distance. A decent walk to the airport and the Deposito Libre. Super convenient. Don Claudio will also drive you for $6. Meals are delicious and reasonably priced. My third visit here.
Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The rooms were gorgeous, well thought and immaculate. The hotel is at a Marina, which makes the whole building very nice and charming.
Good range of breakfasts to choose from. You are offered a menu with different types of breakfast and you choose 1 from it.
Gorgeous views.
All meals were excellent, served in the wonderful restaurant that has a vaulted ceiling yet is open at ground level. Staff were extremely helpful in arranging transport for us both to and from the hotel. Cannot fault the staff who were friendly and very efficient.
Thoroughly recommend.
Carlos was a super friendly host and was always happy to answer our questions/give advice. The location was just a short walk from most of Golfito, and the food provided in the restaurant was really good. Our room was also super spacious and comfortable with air conditioning/fan.
The staff and the restaurant bar area were most attentive, unusual for Costa Rica. It is on a nice quiet bay, but with a little driving you could go to Playa Pavones, or Zancudo/I preferred Zancudo as it a a constant cooling breeze-less popular? Great food from the kitchen.
Breakfast service was excellent
Hotel design, paintings, furnishings gave the feeling of living in a wealthy persons home!
The surrounding neighborhood was clean and seemed safe but all the fences, bars, and razor wire was a concern
Perfect place to overnight before or after the ferry from Jimenez. The young man who checked us in is an asset to the hotel his attitude so friendly and his English very good and he was so helpful find out about busses to go forward.
Scenic views and a hotel over the water in the harbor of Golfito. Large rooms, King beds available, and a very good restaurant with a complimentary breakfast.
