We couldn't be more happy with our stay. Smooth check in process, very friendly and kind staff at the reception desk (we had to check in at the main hotel building, not the albergue itself). I am very grateful that we got a room earlier, my mom was pretty tired and this literally saved our day. Wonderful small but functional room on 5th floor facing the mountains - we could enjoy birds singing, nature sound and stunning views. Albergue building has exceptional common areas - from beautiful spacious lobby with cozy sitting areas to huge common space with the kitchen and sitting areas. Common areas is well planned and pleasant to look at.
Rooms and floor halls are simply designed, but this is something expected at albergue.
Really good buffet breakfast was included in the price - freshly baked bread out of oven, sandwich toppings, jams, fruits, cereals, good coffee...
I can say our stay exceeded my expectations. Spending night at Montserrat is the best way to experience this marvelous site, especially with the good and affordable accommodation.
There were not too many guests at the night of our stay, which made our time there even more special. It was quiet and very tranquil.
Note, you have to make your own bed. This was fine for me and expected in such place, however, I can imagine some people can me unprepared.

Lovely, rustic location. Very friendly. Basic but comfortable and lived up fully to our expectations. Simple but tasty breakfast included. We loved the friendly dogs too!

This was one of the loveliest places that I have ever stayed. The hotel is beautifully decorated and fabulously furnished. So many lovely places to sit and relax and take in the amazing nature and views.
This attractive hotel is set in front of the Montserrat Mountain Natural Park. With spacious gardens, it offers a seasonal outdoor pool, free parking and mountain views, 40 km from Barcelona.
This historic townhouse has been carefully renovated to create a charming small hotel. It lies at the foot of Montserrat – the most important and impressive religious site in Catalonia

The best is to arrive in the second part of the day and stay over night when it is less crowded to enjoy the views and silence.
There are few trails around the monastery. You may walk one of them before sunset and in the morning you may go to San Jeroni and enjoy the views before its too hot. You may ask for a trail map in the information office.
You may go to San Jeroni without using funicular , just take steps next to Abbat Oliba statue and you will see pointers. You may also buy water in the machine in the hostel next to the statue.
In the evening noone asked for a ticket to see Madonna although if you stay in the hotel you have free access anyway.

Amazing place.
Amazing place.
Just don't be in a hurry and have time to feel it.
If you can have an overnight, have it!
Late evening and early morning hours are the best time to have the real feel of Montserrat.

As shown in any photo of the place, Montserrat is one of the most beautiful religious sights on the planet. It is also packed all day with thousands of pilgrims and other visitors. I enjoyed the Sant Joan funicular up the mountain from the Monastery, then the scenic 45 minute walk back down, with panoramic views of the surrounding country, all the way to Barcelona. Staying on site was key, as things were much nicer after 5-6pm when all the crowds left. I stayed there overnight partly to see the 6:30 choir practice of the Escalonia Choir. Supposedly it is "Europe's oldest boys choir." I believe that, since the choir that I saw practice at that particular time, averaged 60-70 years in age! Evening was also nice in the cave-like rocks along the mountain side of the Cathedral, where there were thousands and thousands of lit candles left by the faithful during the day.

We loved the cathedral and the easy access to the Virgin.
We loved the cathedral and the easy access to the Virgin. We then took the train to the top and went for a great hike. The views are astonishing. Having read about really expensive parking up there, we were a bit afraid. However, hotel guests get a reduction and parking fees are very reasonable. This place is really worth a visit.

Montserrat is unmissable..
Montserrat is unmissable.. Ingrown on the rock mountains offers an unparalleled landscape and van be accessed by train or by road both fantastic. A funicular takes visitors even higher. Good hotels and restaurants. Excelent visit for one or two days maximum or much more for resting purposes.

OMG! Fabulous if you like hiking in the mountains - so many trails and so much to see. I was there 3.5 days and hiked about 40km in total. Beautiful area. Be ready for some challenging terrain - especially on the downhills! Some easier places to go also - something for everyone I would say.
If you are able to spare the time - definitely stay up on the mountain...the early mornings are the best, cool and quiet, before the rush of the day.
Location can't be beat. And you get parking (albeit some distance away) which is otherwise a huge hassle. Understand that everything up there -- shops, restaurant (only one mediocre place, albeit with good service and excellent wine), cafeterias, hotel, apartments, hostel -- is under the same management. So if you want to stay up there - and really to appreciate one of the world's great holy places, you should -- you have to take what they offer and the apts. are the cheapest option.
Exceeded our expectations, the view, the trails, and accomodation was truly great. We were with a kid of 4yrs old and he enjoyed all days. The rooms have a locked kitchen, and with a 20 surcharge you can even use the kitchen for your own. Compared to Barcelona de place is affordable and you can stay multiple nights as well. The train+air tickets costs 24, return included.
location. included breakfast. we liked the secure bike storage area as well as the air pump and some bike tools provided as we are cycle tourists passing through. I like the simplicity of the room and hotel—only the essentials-a clean and private bed and bathroom/shower. the hotel was also kind to hold our luggage the next morning after checkout while we went on a hike.
Very large apartment with big table area, kitchen, and extra bedroom (we didn't really use the kitchen). Good location for hiking and all the Montserrat activities. Lots of space to spread out, nice to open windows. Private area as not many people seemed to be staying there. Nice to have a shower after hiking all day.
Nice, clean hotel. I first got a room with a smell of smoking but after asking a personnel i got different room. The bed is comfortable, everything is very clean. Unfortunately i had a room with no view - windows looking to the rocks but i only slept in a room.
They have a restaurant with a delicious food.
Excellent location, right in the heart of the Monastery complex. Spacious and clean apartment. All the staff are very helpful (please note check in is at the hotel not the apartment) and the restaurant in the hotel is a beautiful space with a lovely ambience.
The location is superb and the hotel was one of the best in the area for many years, the food was always excellent and the service impeccable. I’ve had many family occasions there over the years, from small groups , to a large wedding.
We loved the location. The room was excellent. Beautiful view from the window. Great breakfast. The kitchen was very useful. The perfect place to rest and recover after exploring the beautiful nature of Montserrat.
The breakfast was a great value for the 5 of us. Also, based on the location right at Montserrat, there wasn't much else available early in the morning, so it was perfect to have breakfast available at the hostel.
The location is absolutely spectacular. This hotel and this town are like a dream. Beauty every where. Wonderful rooms, service, facilities and dining. We lived absolutely everything.
very friendly staff, if you cannot speak Spanish the lovely staff speak very good English, great location close to Montserrat with lots of hikes, amazing views, dogs allowed
