The house was picture perfect.
The hosts were wonderful and went out of their way to look after us. The breakfast was homemade and amazing,
With no request too much trouble.
The linen bedding was outstanding .

An18th century inn the Royal Oak situated in Swallowcliffe a hamlet 11 miles west of Salisbury Wiltshire which looks charming and inviting. However upon arrival sadly not a pleasant welcome quite insincere from the landlord (despite having pre-paid for 1 night B&B) a very disappointing start to our vacation. The Breakfast was better part of our stay - the polite and friendly young female provided good efficient service.

This wonderful cottage came as a real respite from the road on our South England trip. It became our base and home for three days, from here we made tours out. Wound definitely come book again!
Tanya is a wonderful host and a genuinely kind person. We were wonderfully looked after by her and by Jenny! When we had some technical problems in the cottage they acted immediately and looked into the issue to help us feel safe.
Our whole party was a bit struck when we had to take our leave.

Alvediston is a beautiful village with some fantastic walks and a lovely old church with the grave of Sir Anthony Eden. The Crown pub is ok for a pint but the accommodation is outdated by any modern standards. Food is disappointing.

We stay here quite often, as a base for visiting our family in the area. Added to that the location is quiet, rural and has great scenery. Plenty of walks to explore, but if you want more City of Salisbury is not far by car as is Shaftesbury, We ate at The Crown, but there are other 'eateries' in local villages, towns and cities. If you like a peaceful retreat, for a quiet stay, but with wider facilities close by this is the place for you!

Feels remote. Beautiful countryside. Great for walking.
Feels remote. Beautiful countryside. Great for walking. Great base for visiting Salisbury, Shaftesbury and Sherborne. Feels like Old England. Narrow lanes, plenty of hills. Beautiful views. Great place to get away from it all.

Small village / hamlet. Very quiet, off the beaten track.
Small village / hamlet. Very quiet, off the beaten track. Lots of walks, well signposted, but even more besides. Drovers trails for motorcycles and walkers alike. Beautiful hills and valleys. Lush countryside. Quaint old church. Friendly locals. Easy access to beautiful Shaftesbury and Sherbourne, as well as NT Stourhead Gardens. Narrow roads, so be careful if walking, but not a great deal of traffic.

Beautiful views across the valley, small village and so peaceful. We were told there are fabulous local walks and the surrounding villages are beautiful. There is a bus to Salisbury from the village and the next village has a train station to Salisbury.
