It was quiet and comfortable. We had our dog with us and there was plenty of space for him in the Steading room we stayed in (Clova).
The staff were all lovely especially Jenny who always made time to have a chat and she was brilliant with our dog. The food was also lovely (dinner 2 nights in the bar and full Scottish breakfast both mornings)

Staff and owner were very friendly, helpful, attentive and kind. Special shoutout to Alison who gave us great tips on local activities. We had booked the afternoon tea which was amazing. Dining was delicious and enjoyed taking our drinks upstairs to play snooker.

Not enough space in negative review section, hence the negatives start here:
My wife and I had booked the room via Booking.com in order to attend the concert of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra in Forfar on the evening of 1 June . We would normally not spend this high ammount of money (£115) on a relatively local one night stay in Scotland but we were attracted by the photos of the double rooms at the Royal Hotel that were shown on Booking.com website and by Booking.com website promising a "fabulous breakfast" to be provided by the Hotel.
On arrival at the Hotel, we initially were not able to check in for at least 10 minutes as the reception and bar area was filled by a large crowd of inebreated and very loud football fans. After receving the room keys we had to pave our way through this crowd to get to our room.

Angus has interesting towns/villages.
Angus has interesting towns/villages. My interest is wildlife and Angus has this in abundance including a number of nature reserves nearby. There are a number of narrow roads in the glens but you do get close to wildlife with good views of the scenery.
