Squealing Pig Bothy, hotel in Carloway

Offering a garden and sea view, Squealing Pig Bothy is set in Bragor, 23 km from Callanish Standing Stones and 28 km from Museum Nan Eilean.

We liked the feeling of staying in a blackhouse that hadn't been gentrified but was still comfortable and warm with everything you needed. The location was great with walks immediately from the property. Bothy is a good name for this accomodation. A stay here is more towards camping style rather than glamping, but the lugging of water, fuel etc has been done for you - thank you, John and Jackie. We also liked the fact that Jackie's family had lived there for so long and that she still is part of the weaving heritage of the islands.

Loch Erisort Hotel, hotel in Carloway

Set in Balallan, 32 km from Callanish Standing Stones, Loch Erisort Hotel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a restaurant.

As a tour guide I had two guests staying here. They were a little dissapointed on arrival as the building is tired externally, we entered via the dining room which again is a little tired. Other than that my guests had a comfortable stay, nice big room, good food, and a very good welcome from the owners. It is a little expensive, but that's down to supply and demand. The islands are expensive no matter where you stay. Would I put guests here again, yes, happily.

We have visited the island yearly so we know a car is a must but haven’t previously stayed in Carloway; it’s a great, peaceful location for visiting local amenities such as the blackhouse village and excellent gallery as well as the Blue Pig Studio which sells handmade art and gifts and donkeys to visit! It is near to fantastic beaches such as Dalmore and Dalbeg and not too far from attractions around the rest of the island such as The Callanish Stones, Eoropie Playpark and beach and the town of Stornaway.
