Nestled amongst the mountains with paths and tracks leading all over what’s not to like? Sadly, the general facilities here have gone. No shop for example. One place did have a sign out for coffee, but there could be an opportunity here for someone.
Worth climbing up the Cateran Trail heading south to get stunning views looking down on the village.
Also visit the stone circle, old bridge and the church. Just soak up the atmosphere!

Cannot fault the scenery but you must be a keen hiker or golfer to spend time here. You are miles from anywhere and only one main road, the A93, which is awful. Days out mean a challenging drive on roads with steep climbs, sharp bends and constant gear changes. This can be tiring and a little frightening at night. Three nights was one too many here.

Beautiful peaceful setting, some lovely period features and very friendly staff, but needs a bit of work done on it. We had moveable heaters in our room, but still little chilly. Bathrooms could be doing with upgrade.

A great area for walkers or hikers & bird watchers & if you like peace & quiet.
The Wifi was not great where stayed. In these modern times most people need Wifi to keep in touch with family & friends.
Ballater is a nice place to visit & some good walks & well sign posted.
Nice cafes & shops there too. You need a car together there. Dunked is also a pretty place e to visit.

Go when the snow is there.
Go when the snow is there. We managed to get over the summit in fairly heavy now without 4WD but it was a bit dicy. If it is snowing and windy also the drfiting can cause a whiteout at a moments notice.
Glenshee is a worthwhile stopover while jouneying to/from the north.
Fantastic facilities, charming house, beautiful surroundings and very helpful and friendly hosts making you feel at home.
The house is charming, has two lounge areas with real fireplaces, well equipped kitchen, big dinning area and an outdoor area. Place was nice and warm despite freezing temperatures outside.
The area is perfect for hikes and only a few minutes from the Glenshee ski centre.
Tim and Helen are wonderful hosts with plenty of knowledge and tips about things to do in the area.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff, beautiful location and very cosy vibes. We arrived early and relaxed by the fire in the homely, comfortable reception area. Breakfast was delicious and the room was extremely comfortable and clean with excellent facilities. Although we didn't eat dinner there, we heard it was delicious and, although we didn't have our own dog, it was great to see the hotel was dog friendly. We took a lovely stroll around the grounds and golf course.
The location was absolutely breathtaking. The castle hotel was beautiful as well with the old world feel. The staff was the best and took wonderful care of us making us feel at home. The dining options were sumptuous - definitely 5 star. Lots of fascinating history regarding the property too. The most relaxing vacation we've ever enjoyed. We look forward to returning on the near future.
The hotel is located in a beautiful part of the valley, with breathtaking views wherever you go for a walk. The bed was comfortable for two nights. The towels are large and fluffy. We found an amazing local guide called Eddie Thomson, his company is called Heartland Tours Ltd. I highly recommend it, it was amazing!!
Amazing property at the Scottish highland. The shared bathroom is very clean and the rooms are spacious. The location is ideal if you’re planning to ski in Glenshee. You can rent the ski gear from the lodge owner too with a cheaper price compared to the ski center. Highly recommended
Breakfast and Dinner was very good with lots of choice in the menus. The location was fantastic as the hotel was originally the local lairds castle and tucked away amongst the hills with its "fairy tale turrets" adding to the attractiveness of the scene.
Everything from the drive through the Spittle of Glenshee to get there, the welcoming staff, clean rooms and excellent food. Bartender, who was visiting a member of the staff and ‘ put to work’ along with his dog Jaygo was excellent.
The hotel is a lovely old building with lots of character, it was a nice treat form the usual hotels, it would have been nice to have stayed for longer to truly appreciate the experience. Great breakfast.
This hotel is located way off the road in a remote area, no road noise or city life to spoil the experience. Dinner and breakfast were included in the cost and were outstanding. Staff was very attentive
really good value for money, warm showers, basic but comfy rooms, very well equipped kitchen and close to glenshee skiing. Host was friendly and readily available, had an overall good stay
Location was very nice, quiet and relaxing. Hotel staff were nice, friendly and trying their hardest. Bed was comfortable and the food was well made & delicious.
