Stockbridge has a variety of lovely independent shops, cafes and pubs. There is free parking along the length of the village and lovely walks across the water meadows by the river Test. It's a great base for visiting some amazing gardens like Mottisfont, Houghton Lodge and Longstock. A ribbon town over various tributeries of the River Test and the River itself. A lot of shops to facilitiate the very expensive chalk stream trout fishing, and other outdoor activities. Overall it was satisfactory but it would have been better to have had 2 chairs in the double bedroom, rather than one person having to sit on the bed! Mayfly room above kitchen subject to appreciable noise from the kitchen equipment when being operated. Instructions for using internet unclear.

And when you write a review pointing out to the landlord that the promised breakfast never arrived....does he apologise ? No...does he do or say anything...No. His food is excellent, but if I'm promised breakfast and he's sleeping off a hangover after a "lock in" with locals, well frankly that's not my problem....I paid for breakfast, you gave me nothing.....facts.... My suggestion to other travellers, Saturday dinner is very very good , don't expect breakfast.

We loved eating in their dinning room, it had so much charm. Our rooms were delightful! The room above the pub where me and my husband slept was the best of the four rooms we had. My children had three rooms out the back in a separate building and I would have preferred to have them in the same building above the pub.
